When newspaper ads are wrong or not there?

Sign in to disble this ad
As we know, many venue owners or managers do not always pay attention to advertising even though that is a very important part of their business. However, we have a local newspaper that the regional venues use to advertise their entertainment because that is where most people look to see what is happening each week. The problem is that the ads are frequently wrong or not there at all. It has happened to us many times and it happened again this week.

We are booked tonight locally and tomorrow about 60 miles away (which is not advertised locally anyway). Well, the place we are booked at tonight has no ad at all and the place we played last Saturday has an ad that we are playing there again tomorrow, which we are not. We do advertise our band ourselves but many people don't visit our website or have our schedules. Now we have two problems. People don't know we are playing tonight and the place that has us listed for tomorrow will have people showing up to see us and we are not there and the band they do have playing will also suffer from no ad. This happened to us a few months ago at the same venue when the newspaper had us listed as an acoustic act, which we are not.

When the people contact the newspaper to complain about their ads, all they are told is that they will give them a credit or discount future ads. The main problem with that is it already hurt the venue's business the week the ads were messed up. The newspaper sure does not care who they affect because they know they are the only weekend paper in town. Just another thing to make it difficult for bands and venues.

I have found it best that YOU do the advertising.

If you want something done right, it is best to do it yourself.
