I like mine just below waist level. Slung low, but not ridiculous low. More like Keith Richards low.
Cause then I can do cool moves like this:

| | | | For my personal experience I can testify that the whole concern about strap lenght and looks is pointless until certain level. Why?? Because most of the people who are in the audience are non musicians and non musicians usually dont pay attention to that detail in the same way we bassists or guitarist do, so is pretty funny how we bug ourselves with this concern when most people do not see the difference. For example before I started playing bass I never noticed how high Tim Commenford, Ryan Martinie and guitarists like Tom Morello or John5 played their instruments, however they always looked cool to me. It wasnt until I picked up the bass and started to read bass forums when i started o notice that. Is quite like the Adam and Eve story, they didnt know they were naked until they ate the apple and was just then when they covered themselves. For example when I saw Mudvayne three years ago I didnt pay attention how hight was Ryan's bass but it was his stage presence what impressed me. Unless you are playing an incredibly ligh, small and confortable bass which allows you to jump arond like a maniac, strapping your bass low will deminish your playing and also your stage expresiviness is like trying to play soccer with your pants down. Of course, there is exceptions like Flea but they are just very few. |

Now it's as high as if I'm playing seated.

So in the end it's not about how you look or what bass you play, it's the way you play and the tone you get.
| No doubt, after hearing his tone I used to fantasize about getting a Warwick; then I played one and it was too damn heavy for me.
Not to drag this off topic but when I saw him he was also playing through what looked like a Trace Elliot digital preamp; again reinforcing the fact that one should use what works for them. And for him it deff. works! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
