Long ago, I was happy. I had a beautiful, heavy, MusicMan
Stingray (a year after they came out!) and an old tube amp-
Alamo 2x12. I played that M/M whenever I could. We wuz ONE.
Bein' a techno-weenie, I just had to start futzin' with it.
The folks at M/M were nice enough to sell me a new preamp
module when I finished messin' it up.

A few years later, I came into a windfall and was able
to get a "dream" setup. A Rickenbacker 4080/12 and a 550
watt bi-amp setup. Life was good. All was well.

Then..........I got married .

Through jaded eyes now: I learned one thing. Money is
easier spent than made. It wasn't a year into wedded bliss
when the dream rig went to the pawn shop for 10 cents
on the dollar. OK. Alright. I still had the first "wife" -
the MusicMan. I was getting the electronics back together
to have something playable. I thought I was dealin' with it
fairly well. After all, the M/M was just about ready to go.
Well, the money from the sale of the dream rig ran out.
It wasn't actually pawned. You get more money from selling
dontcha' know. I had just scored a plain old set of GHS
Boomers (on sale, natch). I started unpacking them and was
gonna' install `em on the M/M when the "better half" strolled by.

Apparently, there was a little misunderstanding about the
purpose of my efforts with the M/M. SHE thought it was
yet another "product" to sell for more clothes, jewelry, etc.
I needed a voice. Maybe I wasn't over the sale of the Rick
after all. This musta' been the last straw. I set down the
Boomers, grabbed the M/M, and headed out the door of the
apartment towards the complexes' trash dumpster. Seething
with rage, my first thought was to pitch it in the trash.
But then it could be recovered and sold. Halfway to the
dumpster, a vision came to my addled brain: Pete Townshend.
Let's see how much it's worth splintered in two! .

So. I ask you. With old M/M's fetchin' a small fortune,
where's that automatic butt-kickin' machine? I'll buy a ticket.

I have to look back in humor. Probably the two biggest mistakes of my life.

Live & learn.

I wasn't suggesting any real harm to your "better half", just that if anything should be discarded, it certainly wasn't your bass.

Oh man.. Whenever I hear about things like this I get sad. Dont ever let anyone interfer with your private interests.. I mean a person still have to have his/her own interests even if he/she is married? If not then it is not a good relation in my eyes.

I appreciate the comments, Mesa Man. They ring true.
Unfortunately, I was young, naive, and stoopid. "True
Love would conquer all" . The incident above was the tip
of the iceberg. Later, it was more like one of those
fenced-in, "Texas Death Matches" `ya see on WWF. The ex
made "Sybil" look like Mary Poppins. I consider myself
lucky to have gotten out of it with only minor tendon damage
in my left wrist (frettin' hand) and a gnarly scar on my
right thumb (anchor). Not to mention a healthy respect
for insane women and what they're capable of.

Once in a blue moon, they run a movie on TV (usually
"Lifetime" - go figure) called "Men Don't Tell" with
Judith Light (Who's The Boss) and Peter Strauss (Jericho
Mile, Rich Man/Poor Man). Story o' my life.

Dude! I just checked your profile. You're from Sweden?
What part? I'm 3rd generation `merican. My Grandfolks
came over around 1915 from Goteborg (sp?).

I am from Vänersborg originally, (about 80km north of Göteborg, just at the south end of Lake Vänern the biggest lake in Sweden.. cant miss it. I have got realitves in the US as well, some of them just outside LA.

Anyway now I live in Linköping where I study at the university and play in a band in my spare time.

I would NEVER let anyone interfer with my private interests (well unless it is illegal, then maybe )

I believe that if two persons really love eachother then they respect the other persons private interests. Perhaps you could go out and find another old nice Stingray?

I guess that lady also had to go eventually?

I'll probably have my postin' priveleges suspended for sayin'
this, but I don't think I'd get another Stingray.
They are beautiful instruments no doubt. Just not the tone
I'm lookin' for. Check out the last post here to see where
I'm at: Strings for an old fretless Ripper
Although....there's a beauty fretless M/M Sabre on Ebay (de-fretted neck) .

Oddly enough, SHE bailed around `94. The divorce was final
in `96. I was willin' to work it through (shrinks, etc.).
Left me to raise four young `uns! (my four Chow-Chows ).
Like a bad C & W song or somethin' off Jerry Springer huh?

Well the sound prefs are different I dont think you'll get fried for saying that. The Jerry Springer analogy is very good, which day did you say it you would come on the air?
