Spell check on aisle three.

I think you're missing an "n't" in the poll.

Well I usually just max out all of my possible resources. I still haven't payed $1,000 on a single piece of gear yet though, although I've bought basses that retail for like 14 and 15 hundred. Actually now that I think about it I've gotten good deals on most of my equipment. It's just that I'm poor so I was still scraping together pennies.

I'm usually a budget buyer...haven't stretched the budget yet. I do find that my tastes are moving upmarket, so my daughters need to get busy and finish college!

I could afford the basses, it's just the food, electricity, bills and rent that I couldn't afford after. It's all in the perception.

i've definitely done this with a lot of gear.
the whole "i've got money coming in... soon.... i can 'borrow' a little bit from my rent to buy... something"

got me into trouble a few times... but managed to make everything work.
....
in the long run.

unfortunately (sometimes) that's usually the first priority for my money... gear first.
then bills/food/rent etc.

I started paying off an acoustic bass, reckoned up that I wouldn't be able to afford it cause of different out goings, lost money on deposit, and was acoustic bassless

I did that with my first real bass amp - I asked my mum to finance my first real bass rig (a Trace Elliot head and 2x15 cab) when I was still only 15. It took me about 2 years to pay back with only enough money for a can of coke when I'd go out with my friends, but I'm really proud of the fact that I paid her back
