Who's All Giggin New Years Eve?

Sign in to disble this ad
My band is - finally! Weird deal, a local club (where we've never played before) asked us a few weeks ago about playing New Years Eve, we shot them a price, never heard anything back. Last week they said they had hired another band from out of town to do NYE, but wanted to book us for later in the year. TODAY, got back to us and said the other band had cancelled and could we still do the gig?

Well we ain't too proud -- 2nd choice is better than nothing -- and none of us had made other plans and they're still gonna pay the price we originally asked, so cool beans as far as we're concerned. Plus this is a place with a lot younger crowd than we usually play for, so hopefully a great chance to expand our fan base. I'm especially happy cause we haven't played the last two NYE's and I really didn't feel like sitting home again.

Who else will be out rockin it Thursday nite?

Nope. We had a few offers, but 2 of the wives (mine included) put the kabosh on it. After 12 weekends in a row, they wanted to spend a little quality time with their men folk.

12 weekends in a row?! Busy dude. I guess the wives do have a point there.

My drummer and his wife were gonna go to some event at $27 a ticket but when they found out he could be making money NYE instead of spending it, she said "go for it".

It's supposed to be crazy cold here New Years Eve (like, 10 below), so I'm hoping for a packed house of people wanting to stay all night! The only thing that really sucks with my gig is cause we got it on such short notice, I don't know how many of our regulars are gonna show up if they've already made other plans. It gives us hardly any time to promote.

Yeah, it was supposed to be a couple of weekends a month. Then the guitar player got laid off....... Then the sound guy got laid off....... Then the drummer developed a little "Tax problem" and has to pay the IRS close to a G a month......

The good news is, I caught a cold last Thursday and I actually had time to enjoy it!!

Had a gig booked, then we got the shaft because a another club overbooked and asked the club we were going to gig to take the overflow. Good luck and have fun to the guys who do though

Yeah, we have a New Years Eve gig booked. Just got it about a week ago so it's kind of short notice, but it should be good. It won't be 10 below but the early forecast is for a snowstorm. I hope not.

Fortunately, I'm usually booked for New Years and this year is no exception. I always (well, almost always) have a great time on New Years gigs, what with everyone being so full of NYE spirit - not to mention spirits.

Strange, I absolutely gigged my arse off this year and... no NYE job.

I turned down a couple, thinking I had one all lined up. Then of course that fell though.

That's okay, though - I've always kind of wanted to head out to the desert for NYE.

Timber - I hope you miss the snowstorm, too. Especially if it's anything like we got here over Christmas.

At least if it's cold, people can (and do) still get out to gigs. Nobody could go ANYWHERE here last weekend so I'm looking for people to be out New Years Eve in double-party mode to make up for it!

We're supposed to get that same storm...I'll be at the place we work every Thursday night, though we will get better money for NYE. I've only missed two NYE gigs in the last twenty years, thankfully. It feels weird to be home on that night. Good luck to all of you, hope the storm decides to pass us, we got slammed last year by snow, though people still came out.

Seems kind of weird, both here on TB and talking to others around town... it doesn't seem like a lot of clubs really have their act together booking for NYE. Venues scrambling to get bands last minute, bands cancelling, etc. I mean really, I would think if there's one night a year you want to get a band nailed down well in advance it would be NYE.

OTOH maybe everyone figures people will be out regardless so a lot of advance prep and promo isn't really necessary.

I'm booked,...but,.....after finding out I get to have a double bypass on Monday, ....well,...I hired a guy to sub for me. The really frustrating part of it is, I just got a Stambaugh 6 fretless that is incredible! I really want to gig with this bass, but it looks like it will be a couple of months before I get to debut her on stage. Such is life though. To everyone who is gigging NYE, have a great time and play a great groove for me!

No doubt, voodoo -- take care of your health first. The gigs will be there when you're back in the saddle. And with that Stammie you'll have some serious motivation to get back at it!

Good luck man.. I'm sure you'll be out on that 6er in no time.. As for me, I'm on a First Night Boston gig with Los Sugar Kings.. glad they gave us the inside venue, Hynes Auditorium - 7:30-9pm and out in plenty of time to get to a NYE party afterward..

Private party gig the day of NYE, club gig downtown on NYE and bar gig on January 2nd. Starting the new year off with a good schedule, keeping my fingers crossed it lasts!

First time we've played out since we formed. I haven't played in front of anyone in 10 years. Should be interesting. Even had to turn down playing at a friends bar. Hopefully something good will come from this.
