Internet forums, due to the anonymity they offer, attract a lot of 'socially awkward' guys, and bring out the worst in a lot of people, socially awkward or not. Recipe for lady repellent right there.
I wonder too whether there is a gender bias in the way some web forums are designed and laid out? Not an intentional thing, just that the end result is something 'for men, by men', and doesn't really pique female interest. Or at least not enough interest to make putting up with the nonsense worthwhile.
