This is why your music store clerk hates you http://blogs.citypages.com/gimmenois...light_of_t.php

| | | | This whole snobery over peoples playing ability is uncalled for. No one picks up the instrument for the first time and suddenly plays Fur Elise or Cannon. |

| | | | Music stores usually suck, they usually (if not always) lie to you about everything, maybe they do that because they have no clue what they are talking about or they do it to make sales but I don't like music stores. Biggest problem I have is when they try to push used instruments for new retail prices. "you said this bass is new? How come the finish is looking kind of pale?"
I can understand the reason for that guy making a few video's like that... I can imagine it woulnt be fun when most of the day you need to listen to not well sounding musicians. Could you listen to Justin Bieber for more then 20 seconds without making a face like that guy does? |

The point is that the customers are bad players who are CRANKED TO THE MAX and just keep howling away much longer than necessary.
If you're a beginner, that's fine, everyone's a beginner sometime. But turn on the keyboard to a reasonable volume, play some notes and some chords to see if you like the sound/feel, then make your decision. Don't keep banging away tunelessly AT TOP VOLUME for ten minutes like you're suddenly going to learn something new about the instrument. |

| | | | I knew a guy once, used to go into stores and play like total crap right next to the guy who was blasting Metallica/ megadeath at full volume just to piss them off. The best times were when the other player would try to "out-do" this guy. Usually ended poorly for them as he was a good player. He was a total dick though....

Even though I'm not a beginner, I'm still self-conscious about my volume when testing out a bass in a music store. I make sure I can hear it well, but I keep it as low as I can to avoid annoying other shoppers with unmusical noodling. It's just polite.

I understand that there are also the window shoppers that don't actually buy anything, and sound like a cat in a sock being dragged behind a funny car when they pick up an instrument; however, this is part of the gig when working at a music store.
These guys (and gals) need to take a reality check and accept that they have chosen to the job and that requires customer interaction on multiple levels.
If I saw this happen at the stores I go to, I would take my business elsewhere. Professional service standards are key to a successful business…….. |

In my local music store they have a special room named the "High Gain Room" where all the high-end Marshall stacks and whatnot can be tested to hearts content. Of course, not all stores have the space for a room like this, but it's a really good feature if you ask me.
