...This is why I'm glad I play BASS ;D

Yesterday while I was hanging out in a guitar shop, waiting for the setup guy to finish adjusting my bass, three guitarists came in and started showing off. After several excruciating minutes of each trying to play louder and flashier than the others, one of them started talking to me. Upon finding out that I play bass, he exclaimed "You're way too cute to be a bass player, you should switch to guitar!" Which might be the stupidest thing I've heard all year...

...and I'm sure there must be other people here who've had similar experiences - please, let's hear about 'em!

I remember when I got my first 6 string I took it in to college for our live class. This was basically just get in a band with other students and compile a 30 minute set.

My lecturer came in and the first thing he said when he saw it was 'good lord that looks like a giants guitar!'

Based on the genuine surprise in his voice, among other factors, I'm convinced that he's still on an acid trip from the 60s. Brilliant guy!

Also been told that I don't look like a bassist. Apparently I just look like some guy...not really sure how to take that.

I was playing some rather loud slap in a music store and one of the employees came into the bass area. I apologized for the noise and he says, "No dude, it's cool I just came over to listen. Not many people can play bass like that."

Funny. Just about everyone that I've ever ran into says that I look like a bassist. I guess that means I'm doing the role accordingly.

I'm gonna have to sign up for bassist-image school. Don't quite get what a bassist 'should' look like, considering they're rarely in the public eye enough to have a stereotypical image...

The drummer in my band keeps telling what a cool instrument a bass is.. And the guitarist tells me that I'm the showman of us three when it comes to body movements.

I'm glad to play bass.

so was this thread created so you could talk about how 3 guys said you were cute?

Are you saying that you are happy you play bass because 3 guys said you should be playing guitar because your cute?

I have an story which relates roughly the same to why I'm glad I play bass. I came home to my house one day. Both dogs were happy to meet me when I walked in. One did several tricks for a treat, the other did several plus a couple more (smarter dog/younger). When they were both done I played several songs on my bass downstairs in my room. THAT is why I am glad I play bass.

/sarcasm

I hope you laugh.

Hah! I did laugh. Honestly though, the thread was meant as more of a "what the heck, guitarists!" joke thing. I thought the ";D" in the subject line might convey the intended humour... It should go without saying that I play bass because I love it. I've just never experienced someone trying to compliment me by insulting my instrument before, and that seemed quite funny.

I have been told the same... don't know how to take it... but they say the sound is something they didn't expect... lol... my band is typically the band that gives the country/southern rock bars in my area a break with some rock/party stuff...

I gotten a few people saying I look like pop-style guitarist... I don't really find it too odd since I dress kinda hipster-ish (cutoff skinny jeans, tight v-neck shirts, the occasional flannel and a fedora once in a while) and have moderately short hair... Plus i'm a redhead:P

A lot of people also say that I don't look at all like a Christian haha.

I think it's because usually the bassists are the overweight and/or bald(ing) members of the band, who may sport hats. This is not always the case, but it seems true more often than not.

The only "look" I can associate with bass is an upright player wearing a beret while a poem is being recited.

If I ever get a double bass, a beret will be a required item in my case. lol

Haha yeah thats an odd dynamic, that we bassists can have just as complex or more of a setup that the guitarists, but my amp is warmed up and hot before the guitarist even starts plugging things together. I've practically become a drum tech because my stuff is setup and getting warm while the drummer is still loading up.

FAR BETTER to SOUND like a bass player than to LOOK like a bass player! Besides, Jesus would have played bass... The Cornerstone. The Foundation. The Rock...

A guy said that to me once, too. That line didn't work.

Hey, cut the guys a little slack, it's always shocking, impressive, and surprising when a pretty girl plays bass, and I'm a bassist too! But it's also one of the most awesome things in the world.

A "guitar players said I'm cute" thread requires photographic evidence of alleged cuteness.

... just sayin' ...
