There aren't enough hours in the day for me to enumerate the reasons I love The Who.

People look at me funny though, when I tell them that Tommy is my least favorite Who album. You see, to me, any band without Keith Moon isn't the (bloody) Who, now is it? No offense to Kenny Jones or Zak Starkey (who are each tremendously talented drummers in their own right), of course.

What does Keith Moon's death have to do with you not liking Tommy? Keith Moon recorded Tommy.

And I don't see exactly what more anybody would want out of John Entwistle - do you honestly want him flailing around like Townshend?

Entwistle was the anchor. Somebody had to hold things down with Pete, Roger and Keith all flailing all over the place.

I was never really a fan of The Who until I saw Quadraphenia still can't believe the film was made in the late 70's such a great film...I still want to be a Mod even though my dad had BSA's when I was a teen.

For my money, PT is one of the top 5 songwriters in rock history- Paul & John, Ray Davies, Mick & Keef, Bob Dylan, and Pete- very few have been able to match them, none to my knowledge has bested them. Neil Young, maybe.

But none of them, not even Keef, looked so damn cool onstage. On another board, there was a discussion about "Guitar Hero"- I posted a pic of Pete doing the classic '70s power slide, and wrote "THIS is a (bloody) guitar hero, you wanks!"

POWER

Where'd it go? I never did'nt get an argument over the raw balls of the WHO in full cry. Nobody got it!.Then after the tragedy of 911, and the Concert for NY? I got buried in "Now I see what you meant!!" "Baba" and Won't get Fooled" are the perfect examples of roaring late full band WHO tunes. Love'em miss 'em Always respect them What a band. Much praise, not enough words.

Whenever I say Tommy is my least favorite Who album, someone always asks "but what about Face Dances or It's Hard?" That's when I tell them I don't consider those Who albums, due to the lack of Moon-ness. Make sense?

...You mean nobody ever asks you if you think "Endless Wire" is the worst? That's a shock...

I watched that with my hand on the mute button, expecting a "Live Aid" style trainwreck... and they blew me away. Yeah Roger's voice is shot, but I had no idea they could still do that. Now that John's gone though, I think it really is over, which is a shame.

No better band ever existed on this planet, IMHO. I'm still mad that they called Pino instead of me, but it's not like I was on anybody's top 100 bassists list or anything...

Me: "Hello"
Pete: "Yeah, hi, Scott, this is Pete Townshend."
Me: "Hi, Pete! What can I do you for?"
Pete: "Well, we kinda need a new bassist right now to go on tour and Roger and I were thinking you might be interested."
Me: "I sure am interested! Tell me, how did you come to call me?"
Pete: "We heard you play a mean bass in a couple of classic rock cover bands in VFW's, Legions, Eagles and Elks clubs all over southern Minnesota."
Me: "True enough - western Wisconsin and northern Iowa, too! When do you want me to meet up with you?"

...yeah, right, it COULDA happened!...

I don't think anyone else considers that a Who album, either.

There are too many members on Talkbass and few enough of them have read this post for you to have any kind of stigma already.

Which isn't to say you won't soon enough.

I'm not sure I what I consider it. Certainly not a Who album.
