Good lord man!!! That system sucked major @ss! It came with some many little features including the fastest blue screen time of them all.

But your point is totally valid, it was a nice little bass line when first going into Windows.

Win98 was a pretty stable platform. Windows ME was a joke. We called it the Crash-O-Matic. It take the first step of automatically looking for drivers.

In my opinion Win95 was the best for desktop. They finally had worked all the bugs out and we never had any issues with it crashing. I actually used to run Win2000 server on my Desktop system and it ran flawless. Until Microsoft comes out with a platform that is not backwards compatible with previous programs, they will never be able to fix the big security risks.

They need to design a platform that is not compatible with any Microsoft products ealier than 2003.

Apple did this and it fixed a bunch of problems they had.

A fully patched NT4 was the most stabile OS M$ ever did release, rock solid as never seen again, though not so fun if you wanted to do anything else than work (office, programming etc.) on it.

Win 2000 Pro suited my needs best. Stable, advanced networking and best interface.

Vista is absolute crap. And I only use XP because Win 2000 is no longer supported.

Never liked Linux or Unix, half the things I use aren't supported on them, and I didn't like the alternatives.

Vista was installed on my new laptop when I got it. After about 4 days of trying to get it working with various programs and hardware, I removed it and installed XP. It was a bit of a task (Laptop's aren't easy to install other OSs on), but it was worth it. XP is so much faster and supports many more programs.

Ya, that sound, distorted coming out of a 2" speaker. Pretty discriptive of the entire Windows experience... distorted and waiting to blow up.

Best M$ OS's:

Win 2K Professional
Win 98 SP2
Win XP Professional
DOS 6.22

Vista really isn't as bad as everyone claims it is. That doesn't mean I wouldn't have gotten XP on my laptop if I could.

YMMV, of course.
