I would not call her stupid, from just watching that little clip either. I don't know anything about her, never heard from her... Yes, she clearly did not receive the best education. She clearly lacks some very basic knowledge... But that is not enough to rule her out as stupid.
I am going to guess she probably grew up in an "underprivileged" background, and she probably did not have the opportunities and mostly encouragement that other people (like me) had.
She seems sweet, and smart in other ways, to be honest. I could be wrong, but I cannot tell from that short clip.
She is probably smarter than a lot of the people who snorted and hooted when she said she was not even sure France was a country.
Give me a sweet uneducated person anytime over an educated smart ass.

kids need to learn how to fire up a gas-powered lawn mower, how to manage their money. how to change a diaper on a baby...
i failed grade 12 english horribly because the whole course was based on reading boring hort stories and then answering questions about them.
but yet i was one of the school`s highest graded essay writers who would wait till the last night to do the year long project and ace it. go figure.

That being said...she was relatively hot for American Idol and had a decent voice. Her damaged background made her a bit more sexy and she went pretty far.

I have a 32 year old friend that is hilarious to play games with like Cranium. What stumps him would astonish you and you'd think that he just may be "a lil stupid". He probably couldn't name 5 presidents BUT can draw the periodic table from memory and could tell you the positions of 50 stars with longer names than a Belgian bakery. Mentioning Kardashian, Gun Control, Beiber or Fiscal Cliff would get a blank stare.
He's a propulsion engineer, graduated college at 18, IQ off the charts and an amazing amateur farmer/chef. Geography isn't the only sign of intelligence. |

Most of us would do no better in the same situation, check the nightly news for proof...
I'm of the theory that she knows well what she is doing and is in character, like many. It takes a smart person to play a 'dumb' career. Great legs too. |

My point in BOTH of my posts was that the whole "dumb" thing is an ACT. I think she is not ACTUALLY that dumb, but ACTS dumb for publicity.
I grew up in a rural NC school as well. I got a great education. Now I am back in school at 41 and my classmates get ME to proofread their papers all the time.

I remember when these "Are You Smarter Than an X" shows started out, the premise had college professors going up against third graders or whatever. I thought the premise was completely asinine. Those professors have very specific knowledge bases that they gained throughout their education and careers. If they had recently been taking third grade social studies, they could probably name the 23rd President of the U.S. from memory too. But they were actually more concerned with, ya know, writing their dissertations and publishing articles in their fields. It doesn't make them any less intelligent than a third grader. But the show was premised on the idea that people will say, "Ooohhh, those ivory tower elites aren't really so smart. They can't even name the capital of United Principality of Dumpwater Island." It's really a symptom of the anti-intellectualism I see in America...but that's a tangent for another time.
With that said, I think as global citizens, we do have a responsibility to be somewhat informed about our world. That doesn't mean we all have to be renaissance men and women, but we should know that Europe is a continent instead of a country.
