Words I never want to hear in a song ever again

Sign in to disble this ad
Oh boy, there's a lot of them. Reggae in particular, being the torch-bearer for world music, has some themes that have been flogged to death, resurrected, flogged to death again and then painfully left to decay in the sun. Reggae's abused words that give me the chills now:

Babylon (Buhbeelahn!)
Zion
Riddem (or Riddim)
Hypocrites (heepocreets)
Jah-this or Jah-that
Rasta-this or Rasta-that
Ganja
Fire (fiyah)

Combining some or all of these words in a contrived stream of nonsensical righteous pseudo-Patois is de rigueur for the genre these days. I'll give you an example, shall I?

"Baaahbeelahn seestem buuuurn, one fiyah teach the cheeldrens to luuuurn, Rasta man is Jah only man can fight the heepocreets! Jah fiyah, Jah fiyah, Jah fiyah..."

Feel free to lift my example lyrics if you wish to start a derivative "world music" band of your own.

Feel free to take this opportunity to let off some steam about oft-abused words and themes in genres you try to enjoy.

"The blues" - the blues.

Really, if you need to tell me you have the blues by saying you have the blues, you're not very good at the blues.

Pain. All songs with the word "pain" in them would be improved by replacing it with "paint".

What really gets my goat is "chew" as in when "with you" is turned to witchew (among other "chews).

+ 1

I was listening to some "country" music that was playing in the background of a store I was in... I can't remember what the song was, or even the lyrics, but MAN! It was cliche after cliche after cliche!!!!! Plus some new ones that I never ever want to hear in a song again!
