Funny, but untrue. Anybody who can play notes on a bass can get a gig.

Old joke I just heard...

Dad gets his son bass lessons. "Son, how was your first lesson?"

"Great, dad. I learned how to use the first 5 frets on the low string."

"Son, how was your 2nd lesson?

"Great, dad. I learned how to use the first 5 frets on the 2nd string.

"Son, how was your 3rd lesson?"

" I blew it off, Dad. I had a gig."
