worse bass related injury

Sign in to disble this ad
lets be honest here folks bass players do have the advantage of being better looking, more intelligent, sexually superior, genetically better and all around cooler than other musicians
but we have a fatal flaw!
most if not all of us are clumbsy, slow to react and generally walking disaster zones when it comes to personal space and safety

so this one is simple lets hear your worse bass related injurys i understand some of you will have a few in wich case list your top 3 etc etc

oh n if we have any gory pictures... please post

It's not mine but one of the funniest. It was Nirvana and the bass player threw his bass in the air but he didn't catch it it hit him square in the head knocked him cold I think this was the MTV Awards or something or the AMA in the 90's it was hilarious.

Was playing in a production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch in Chicago a few years ago. At the last show, I was sitting on my amp during the monologue after the opening song. Reached down with my left arm for the bottle of gatorade on the ground and impinged my shoulder.

That **** hurt! I honestly thought I had dislocated my shoulder. My drummer was not amused. We still another hour and a half to go.

Sucked it up and played the show. Still feel it randomly even after physical therapy.

ok i'll share mine
i once got drunk and fell asleep in the studio (our guitarist owned his own studio)
anyways all the guitars used to be hung up behind the mixing desk above the couch which i was sleeping on
i dunno how it happened but durin the night i must of nudged one of the bass's on there which fell off and landed on me, waking me up and sending me into a blind panic in the pitch darkness (my band mates had continued the party in the next room and turned the lights off)
finally one of my mates heard the commotion and switched the lights back he took one look at me and nearly threw up when i looked in the mirror i nearly did the same
turns out the bass had done more than just land on my head it had somehow torn my eyelid open and near enough severed it into two seperate pieces and when i had my eye shut you could still see the white of my eye showing through
the rest of the night was spent in A&E

huge +1, when reading the OP I immediatly thought of that. Very funny.

Other injusries ... well, bad hand position due to stupid position to look cool when playing.
Do a backflip like Wooten, not always a good idea, or just make the bass a flip around your neck. Thos two can transform you into a weapon of mass destruction on stage.

Strap falling off the strap buttons and trying to save my bass from hitting the ground and accidentally slamming my self in the face with the tuner side of the head stock. or the time my strap also failed and my brand new at the time mim jazz lands on my foot.

Thought I might try to defret my Univox bass using a steel chisel, ended up cutting open my left palm in the meaty area just below my index finger. Fortunately, it wasn't that bad, it didn't need stitches or anything, but I bled like a stuck pig for a few minutes. Scary.
Needless to say, I didn't bother with defretting my bass after that.

I get dry skin cuts on my fingers from time to time. It's extremely painful to play if its your fretting finger, and even worse if it's your plucking finger.

Dropped a Sunn 200s w/jbl's from chest high and it landed on one corner on my big toe(barefoot). I still don't have a real toenail 30 years later. Broke it ,too. I haven't had Old Milwaukee since.
