Worst gig ever.

Because we practice at our drummer's house, his mom made us play a charity "battle of the bands" with two bands at her church. We are like 15 by the way. We had to go set up 5 hours early, and we had to play quietly. Obviously, we couldn't really hear ourselves, so I'm surprised we did so well. I have huge blisters because i turned my volume way down, figuring I could just adjust with technique.

The real problem is, our lead guitarist flaked on us and "was stuck in traffic" for over an hour when he was "5 minutes away".

We managed to play the show, and even won a 50 dollar gift certificate to Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center. Needless to say, the lead guitarist is out of here. So many times, he's said he's 5 minutes away from practice and never showed up, or showed up to practice for only 30 minutes.

Only one of my Peavey's is actually from the 80's the other is like 1991 or something. I guess this gig was good, because we can finally move forward.

I'm 40 and play a '93 Peavey Fury.
When I outplay its limits, I'll move up to a Cirrus.

A gig's a gig, and it'll make your drummer's mum happier. Not to mention you got something for it, happy days!

Congrats on the gift certificate, Chuck Levin's is a great store.

I have had nothing but terrible experiences playing MD battle of the bands. Sorry to hear that's still happening. If you guys are good, send a demo to Fort Reno.

I'm 40 and I my main bass is an old DynaBass. Couldn't tell you the year off hand, but early 90s I think.

Hi.

Congrats on the gig, ad the gift certificate as well.

Just as the previous posters have said, that wasn't a bad gig. You'll have much, much worse in the years to come.

Don't be discouraged though, it's just what gigging usually is. The sad truth is that You won't be able to be too picky about your gigs, if you want to play, perform and entertain for living or a hobby.

Be thankful to Your drummers mom for "forcing" you to do the gig.

And hey, You got rid of a flaky band member in the process, that's always a good thing.

Regards
Sam

I'll say.... we just had one of those Sunday night.

Our opening song had a guitar solo, but it's easy. And the guitarist butchered it.

Many other things happened which I don't really care to discuss.

two weeks ago we hade a huge show planned on a friday night doing covers which is something I'm not use to (Cover Songs) I was asked by a well known musician to fill in on bass and we get to the bar about 3 hrs. before and start setting up... we tried calling the singer all day w/ no luck!!!! finally we hear that he was arrested the night before for "Public Intoxication" so we had to pull songs out of our arses to make it through the night, now that was not fun at all.... It was not the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last...
