Judging solely from that video, probably not.

Yes. Definately. He's using a bass guitar. Anybody who says different is a moron. Why? Because you are trying to restrict what is and is not "bass" music, which is VERY moronic.

Not bass at all. The shredding, string spacing, etc made me want to cry.

I heard a little bit of bass... but it was mostly from the drummer.

not a bass guitar or electirc bass. a piccolo bass ok. a bassitar or guitbass (like The Presidents of the United States of America or P.U.S.A played) sure. but not an electric bass. as per your question i'm sure that he is indeed a bassist in that band, though i've never heard of them and am guessing.

Funny how you are calling anyone who thinks different a moron, when this is one of the most moronic things I've read on here.

How is he playing a bass guitar? So I guess a 6-string electric can also be called a BASS guitar just because there happen to be 6 string bass guitars?

True there shouldn't be restrictions on what can be called such and such instrument music, but you have to draw the line somewhere. He's playing a guitar with guitar spacing, guitar sized strings, with a pick, playing shredding riffs with full on distortion and guitar tone. There is nothing even close that would clue someone in that it's a bass guitar other than the amount of strings, which wouldn't matter if you couldn't actually see him playing. Even in some music played on a bass that is more melodic and chordial based, even if the tone and sound is similar to say things that might be played on a classical guitar, the frequency and sound is such that it still tells you that it's a BASS guitar.

Joey DeMaio is a very competent bass player.
Pretending otherwise doesn't make much sense, since he's been doing the job for over 25 years in one of the biggest heavy metal acts in the world.
Playing a solo with a guitar-like tone is forbidden I guess if you want respect from the conservative crowd.
Good news, he doesn't mind.

ummm it's a bass with 4 guitars strings close together, so he seems more like a guitard to me. Not a guitarist, a guitard.

Let's see....been the bassist in a successful band for well over 2 decades. Yeah, that qualifies as a bassist even if I think the music is silly.

Very true. Whatever he is playing looks to me like a bass with a guitar bridge/trem, a narrow spaced nut, and guitar strings. Whether or not that = a bass guitar is up to you (not you specifically).

Well yeah he plays bass so he is a bassist . however that thing he is playing is not a bass guitar so it shouldn't be called a bass solo .
