WTH?, Musicians can't be decent cooks. lol

I had 2 very nice evenings last week with my 2 bands. I decided to call a jam/food/beer evening with both of them, and asked the guys (and/or their GF's) to impress each other with fun appetizers that we could eat here and there all evening long, along with some beer and wine.

Did a small jam, then a beer, and then one after the other, they prepared their food they brought. I was the only one that actually made something. They all brought semi decent frozen bites 20 min at 400 type of appetizers. I made mushroom caps filled with ham and cheese filling (band 1) and seafood mix in white wine sauce on miniature pastry (band 2). It was still a very nice evening. It just got me thinking that it's true, we often talk food at work, but just about never with bandmates. Are musicians usually not so great cooks?

Hmmm

I love to cook and I like to think that I am decent at it. Just like music, there is an aspect of creativity while cooking that draws me to it.

What I find odd, is that there is this stimga of cooking not being "manly," unless it is something like grilling or barbeque (there is a difference). If you look at professional chefs and cooks in restuarants, you will find that it is a very male dominated profession.

I tell my son that he is lucky because he has a mom and dad who can both cook pretty well.

Not enough people realize there is a difference between grilling and barbecuing! You are the man, man! There is definitely an art to barbecuing, getting the right amount of smoke going on, the right temperatures, the right sauces rubs brines etc etc.

HA! Nowadays, he's just lucky because he as a mom AND dad. It's not as common as it used to be.

I play music and I can cook well enough--but I'm best at EATING! I can eat REALLY, REALLY well!

I should go pro!

I can't cook worth beans. When my wife had to go stay with her Dad while he was dieing, I lived on BBQed steak, potatoes, raw carrots, frozen corn, soup. Oh, and my specialty: beans and eggs.

And yes, to the purists I am probably not really BBQing.... tough.

couple three lifetimes ago

i `was' a souze chef or at least that was my title having worked up from`broiler man' `head cook on night shift' to egg slinging second man on days(the first guy had been there since`56,he didn't do much AT ALL=pancakes/hash browns),,,,,,,,,so then i got the SS job,i was learning the seasonings, italian for instance,or poultry, that was a good one,and we made all our soups, sauces from scratch,BBQ,cole slaw,i saute'd or broiled, fried, baked, seared everything you can name,so yeah i CAN cook, even done some bank side lunches for folks i `guided' on river trips during my last life,,,but if i had one choice it would be(drumroll here please!)=SIRLOIN STEAK MEDIUM RARE!,or Rogue Spring Chinook,,,a salad or corn on the cob and,,,

as for Hors De Ors cheese and crackers and a good dark ale work for me,nothing wrong with them but you'll never please everybody(with them),even the cheese one person will whine about and especially the variety of`ale' out there,,,i love to cook but limit my time in the kitchen as i find i'm cooking for everybody else not myself `nuff said?!!!!!

Same. I don't see why people think that though since 16 year olds are notorious eaters. I end up cooking extravagant meals for after school snacks.

I have an acoustic duo, and my partner was a professional cook before he retired. We often talk about preparing good food (I'm a closet "foodie") and best of all, we enjoy getting together with our wives and EATING good food. We've also eaten our share of McD's going to or from a gig. I prefer real food ...

i learned to cook after i joined weight watchers. sadly, neither myself or my wife were taught to cook growing up. For years we lived on boxed food and fast food. She does no cooking at all and I am the main chef at our house. I do pretty well at it, and over the last 2 years i've lost 97 lbs. When we have kids, we will teach them how to cook and I dont mean mac and cheese or hamburger helper!!!

Uh, I feel like a lot of musicians are also cooks. Also a lot of musicians who don't make it in music become chefs.

Just because you met a few musicians who also had no palate doesn't mean it's true for every single other musician in the world.

Have you not watched Ace of Cakes? Chef Duff Goldman is not only a great pastry chef but he also plays bass in a rock band!
I think there is something about being a creative/artistic person as a musician that fits right in with cooking.
