Today was a completely normal day for your average dedicated 14 year old bassist: learned Pulling Teeth by Metallica, jammed for 3 hours, and played video games. Today was one of those wonderful Teacher meeting things(no school) I'm sitting down and my best friend, who's in a band with this awesome kid named Trey, texted me "hey. Are you home?" I said "...ya.. Why?" he didn't respond. Trey lives in a subdivision within walking distance from my apartment. About 10 minutes later, I find him &trey at my doorstep. Im in my day off garb: pjs & no underwear (eww!!!!) so they ask to come in. Then, they go into my room. They ask me to play me some bass for them. My friend, 9 years playing, already knew I was "good". I played them some Pulling teeth from this morning, peace sells, and some foos. I then got invited, or rather begged, to join their band, being that their bassist can't even play "Rope". I said "I'll think about it". But I already knew I would, because my best friend talked about how he's going to be playing gigs.
So, at the age of 14, a freshman in highschool, I'm having to learn an about 15 song set list and will be paid money to preform.
This was a very, very good day. XD

Thanks! I'm so excited, and so lucky! No more begging for new equipment for christmas, I can save up for my own! Of course, most of them will be coffee shops, but still. So much fun ahead

Cool, man! So young and already on the move. Congrats.

When did you start playing bass, by the way?

I remember when I was 14 and I bought a distortion pedal and learned Pulling Teeth

Good job man. That song is so much fun to learn/play. Keep it up and good luck with the shows

Last Christmas. Feels like I've been playing for two years, but only like 11 months. Haha

Underwear is overrated.
For sleeping, anyways.

Cool, I started at around the same time (November 2010), and I played guitar on and off for a year before that. Mind you, I started at 27, so you are already ahead of me. Keep it up! I'm sure you'll do great with your band.

I got my first paying gig at 14, but not many people I know get to start as early as you are. Have fun, and you'll only get better and have more experience.

Congrats, dude. Hey, I made my first music dough at age 12, on piano, no less, for some country club affair. I think I got $10 for an hour, or so. That was 1962. First band at age 15 in 1965, and another $10 for playing for the bass player's mother's garden party. Heh, heh. I'll never forget. Neither will you.

(: actually, funny you talk about piano. I've been trying to pick it up now & then, but it's not like bass. You can't just look up songs and learn scales and *shazoom* you're a pianist. So I've been taking the notes from simple songs (I learned stranger things have happened by foo fighters last night) and playing them on piano.
Also, the kid & I are going to jam today, which should be fun & let me know him better. I also figured out that the kid, trey, isn't cheap. He charges 100$ a gig D: so my cut (I offered to play for free) is 25. The first real practice is on Tuesday. So excited!

Yay for paying gigs indeed. I'm in the same sort of boat as you and I can't even get enough people together. Even if you're a cover band, getting out there and playing is the best experience you can get.
