Anyone else catch that on Jay Leno last night? Poor girl (bassist) looses her strap in the first 10 seconds of the song.
So there you are on national television backing some American Idol singer...whoopsie, bummer deal.
Straplocks are cheap! I'm sorry, but I really don't know why folks avoid using them. |

makes the strap stick out too far
more things to remember to tighten up
damage the bass' finish when they hit the body
make the strap harder to roll-up and put away

Someone mentioned them stripping out of the body - personally, I put a drop of 5 minute epoxy on the threads before screwing a straplock (Dunlop style) on, and be sure to have a good felt or leather washer between it and the body. If you position them on your strap right, even with the pin pulled they are hanging in the locks. That the strap might be harder to roll up? - hmm, try replacing a neck, or a whole bass if it is neck-through. I personally can't imagine rolling up my strap - I go for the thick and wide, so no rolling up is practical.
They sell knock-off Dunlops on ebay as low as $12 for 6 sets. Virtually identical to Dunlops, work on the Dunlop pins.
TO each their own!

You make a bad "clip" with the Schaller, next sound you hear is "oh cht!"
