My cover band played an awesome show down at the local dive bar last Saturday night. The dance floor was pumping all night and crowd was hootin & hollowrin...clappin along and shouting out all the lyrics. People were coming up to us all night long saying how awesome the band sounds and stuffing the tip jar. Even the jadded bartenders and cocktail servers were saying nice things about the band and they have seen hundreds play there. We record all our performances for future references to learn what works and where improvements are needed. I was playing back the recording and about a few songs from the end of our show I heard some drunk chick complaining.... "we are all a bunch of Mf'ers and aholes" for playing so loud that she can't have a conversation......and she can be heard talking sh*t over the band playing a song. Never heard one word about our volume which is always at a reasonable bar band level at any time during our performance from any of the staffers or audience. Guess you can't please everybody.

No, you can't. By all accounts it sounds like the band had a great night. My advice is don't obsess over the one person who thinks the other few hundred people should stop having a good time so she could continue her drunken babbling. Let it go.

+1
No matter what you do there will always be one person who doesn't like your song selection, thinks you are too loud, etc. As long as the vast majority likes it then don't sweat it!

And you never will. There will ALWAYS be someone like this at every single gig you play. Even posting this thread, is giving it them too much of your attention!

Keep Rockin for all the other people!

My experience has been that the ones who complain about the volume are the ones who stand directly in front of one of the main speakers. I had that at a trio gig last week, when a guy walked by one of the mains, which was right at ear level, and was yelling "It's too loud! Turn it down!" We were in the middle of a song, so I just gave him my "Who the [heck] are you?" look, and played on as he wandered off.

the solution is to take your vocalists microphone by the stand, and place the mic head directly in front of your main speaker like you are close micing it. That usually shuts everyone up.

Haha I have one of those. One of my old bands was playing an outdoor event sponsored by a frat at our university...always turns out well. But this one guy kept getting awkwardly close to me while I'm playing and trying to sing, and upon giving him the "who the fk are you" look, he just kept saying "Dude...seriously." *look* "Dude...seriously." "Can I help you bud?" "Dude...seriously..." He was very drunk, a friend had to escort him off the stage

If the dance floor was packed and the bar staff were happy, then you did your jobs well.
The end.

If all you heard is that one drunk idiot..big deal! Sounds like you had a killer night. If you want to talk in a bar dont go to one with loud music or a live band.I will never understand those type of people and most you could never please if you tried...so dont and dont worry.
