You Ever Play An Entire Gig Blindfolded?

Sign in to disble this ad
I found this ad on the local Craigslist:

http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/muc/1825963519.html

Need a 4 piece rock band for event on August 30th in Montague. Can play originals or covers, doesn't matter as long as there is lots of guitar and rock beats. Must play blindfolded and not interact with the patrons at all. Show up 2 hours early and set up, put on blindfolds before guests arrive. Can take them off when everyone has left, pay will be upon completion of the event.

We responded to it this morning, so far no reply, but I gotta say, I'm intrigued and more than a little frightened.

What could the event be? The possibilities are staggering!

Would make catching visual cues harder, but then it doesn't seem like quality of musicianship is the booker's primary focus.

I dunno if I'd feel completely comfortable blindfolded during a gig. So many unexpected things tend to happen when we're gigging. I don't even like darker stages.

I kinda figure the drummer is going to have the hardest job. He already whacks cymbals with his knuckles as it is.

Our lead singer likes to run around a lot, so that could be entertaining if he's blind folded as well.

I'm kinda thinking it's gotta be a room full of naked ugly people, but I just don't know. The ad was up for a day or 2 before I found it so maybe the gig is already taken. I am intrigued however.

This. Bring your mirror pickguard, just in case. A pair of winged shoes might be useful, too.

Just buy some of that fabric they use for Grim Reaper costumes; it'll look like you're blindfolded but you'll still be able to see.

That is, if you actually want to see what's going on in that place...

Yes, but it was for an audience of one, and I wasn't playing bass. I didn't get paid for it, but it was worth every penny!

I teach lessons in the dark occasionally. There is no quicker way to break from looking at your hands than to not be able to see them at all.

I would play that gig in a second! Fun story!

It's a wind-up. And you fell for it. For shame, but it's pretty funny.

I could see (ha ha) playing A song blindfolded. Or even a few songs in a row. But a whole gig, blindfolded start to finish?!? No way! Especially not the drummer.

I would have to ask for them to put up a privacy screen or something to separate the band from the audience. Be heard, but not seen.

I'd bet it's some artsy thing that will not have a turnout.... or it will be a blast.

I practice in the dark -- does this count?
