Stereotypically bass players are the big, silent type. I find I'm quite the opposite. So i was just wondering where you guys sit. |

| | | | Of course the flaw with this poll is that extroverts are probably more likely to answer than introverts ;-)

I am not big (5.8) and I'm not the silent type (Usually I end up leading the band I join/assemble)
but I am definitely introverted
What makes me ask: What is a introverted person for you? "Non-Carismatic" ? "Nerd"? "The Mute Guy"??? |

I also do the Email, website facebook and myspace, booking and talk to the people at tables that came to see us, because the other guys don't.
I don't consider myself extroverted....just proactive. |

| | Yeah, I've got the moves like Jagger. | | Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: G.R. MI | | | I went with introverted, my wife would claim I'm just the opposite. I do enjoy being onstage, and being on mic in front of a 1000 people doesn't really scare me at all. I also find reading a book in my recliner with a dog in my lap to be a little slice of heaven.
Can a person be a little of both?

Introverts are commonly found perusing and posting on online forums like these, while extroverts tend to be more social out in the real world.
Generally speaking, of course. |

Normally, I'm 'the quiet one,' but the first time my folks saw me front a band, they couldn't believe it was the same person.
On the other hand, this may just suggest some kind of split-personality disorder...

I was very shy and introverted growing up, but at my 20th high school reunion I had classmates dropping their jaws when I got on stage to sing and rap (Rapper's Delight w/ another classmate). So yeah, it depends on the situation, but I'm a totally different person onstage than I am in most other situations.
BTW I started drinking in college, so maybe that had something to do with it? |

So where’s my option?

The bass is essentially a prop to allow me to 'be someone else' I guess.

I think the reason for this is, when I was young and wanted to learn an instrument, I wanted to play guitar. But when I went to the store with my mom, the owner told me " you don't want to play guitar, learn the bass, the world needs more bass players". Combined with the fact me and some friends were starting a band, and two of them beat me to the guitar a week before, I decided to go with the bass for the band. I think that's why I lean to the extroverted bass players as idols, Flea, Jaco, Cliff Burton,, etc..
