All (commercial) Rap sounds like - well like that!!! & all 'rock/pop' sounds like Nickelback... aaaaaaaagghghghghgh!!!!!!!
I LOVE good rap/hip hop- I was listening to Grand master Flash & furious 5, Kurtis Blow, Sugarhill Gang, LLCOOLJ etc way back...
& even like a lotta modern stuff, but ones like "u spin me round round baby right round when U go down baby...." Uuugghhh!!!!! I know they're gonna sell thousands of copies & be played 10x a night in some places, but OMG grow some originality !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have NOT ONE 'modern' (last 10 years) band on my WMP apart from Muse. Most stuff I've got on my WMP is 1970s. I'd be screwed at most gigs here.
And I'm only 21...

All anyone has to do is just listen to The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Queen, Journey, Rush, James Taylor, and then listen to today's warm dog diarrhea like Nickelback or Daughtry or Brittney or Green Day or anything "rap" related, and it will speak for itself without us having to say a word. In fact, some of that doesn't even qualify as music (but it has been a real boon for people with no musical talent whatsoever to enter the recording industry).

New music is designed to appeal to the masses, just like it was 10 years ago, 20 years ago, 30 years ago, etc... I play music that I enjoy to entertain people. Nickelback is a great band. Daughtry is a great band with great musicians, (Josh Paul is a bada$$!) Britney has a great voice and her musicians are competent. I bet you don't like Miley Cyrus either. Guess what her band is great and she can sing and play. All you guys that are griping have one thing that these people don't...
A Day Job!
Get over yourselves. It's music and if you don't like it move the hell on!

We're considering adding "Telstar" to our set. That's what I call contemporary!!

It allows people to express their opinions which nearly always differ from others' opinions. I won't enter the realm of finding fault with others who have opinions that differ from mine. I don't have a need for doing such a thing. I used to have that need, but I grew out of it a looooong time ago.
Besides, there is room for all types of music in this world. And we need the crappy stuff so that the good stuff stands out for what it truly is.
Party on, dudes!

I'm 26, and started to get into "modern" music with the Strokes, Hives and White Stripes...before that (the 90's) there wasn't a lot worth listening to really and I was a 50's/60's rock'n'roll and Beatles guy...and SINCE theres not been a lot worth listening to (Every band after 2005 basically - the Arctic Monkeys just KILLED modern guitar-based music...and because of that the dodgy pop, rap, r'n'b has come back after its popularity waining...)

All ya gotta do is try playing some of their material, and it becomes clear just how talented those guys were. They used various modes (Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, etc.) which today's 3-chord twink dweeblets wouldn't even know about. It seems that today's so called music is not so much about the level of musicianship, but rather just how radical of a facial expression you can make while performing. It must take years of practice, huh? I can just see it now.....
"Okay class, today we are going to study Chapter 3 where we learn the radical grrrrrrrr expression, which really comes in handy for intense solos and when you want the audience to think you are soooo hot."
