Anyone ever have that said to them?
I was in the bar earlier today with people in my class, who i've only known about a month, we were talking about bands and gigging, i mentioned i'd been in a few bands over the years...and they all said they reckoned i played bass as i "look like a bass player".
I wasn't offended or anything i just found it very curious, and when i asked them why i looked like a bass player, they could only reply with "eh, you just do!".

| oh i did too, but i was just curious as to what made me look like a bass player to people who'd never seen me play or even knew i played music in the first place.
The second most popular opinion was that i was a drummer! So atleast i look like i'm capable of rhythm

They're pretty sure you're not a singer because you aren't whining about something and you carry things heavier than a mic stand. You're not constantly looking in the mirror and trying to steal other people's spotlight, so that leaves out guitarist. What's left? Bass player.
By the way, I've gotten that line many times as well. I always say thanks. |

I'm always like 'nope, I play bass'. And then they're all like 'YOU DON"T LOOK LIKE A BASS PLAYER' and they kill me... realistically they're just like 'oh bass? is that the one that looks easy?' And I restrain myself from b*tchslapping them into the ground. |

I'll admit I was asking for it when I had the mutton-chops-connecting-to-the-mustache look. Spinal Tap, y'know.

I think part of it is that I'm tall and have long hair... People seem to think that guys with long hair play music, and then the tall guys play bass "because bass is bigger". Personally I don't quite follow that logic, but whatever

Scary, we really must be a breed apart!

| | | I'm not sure what I look like as far as that goes, but I remember shopping at GC for the newer Bassman 100 combo, and all the salesguy heard was 'Bassman' and started pulling up all these "sweet deals" on their reissue Bassman heads and the 4x10 combos, the '59 all tube--even after I spoke very slowly and articulately "The NEW Fender Bassman 100 COMBO, with the 1 10" speaker. NOT the RUMBLE series either...."
He went on about the great blues tone of the Bassman amps he had, and I finally had to stop him with, "No...I'm an ACTUAL bassplayer who plays BASS; not a GUITARIST..."
Then he looked a bit puzzled for a moment, looked up what they had and told me they didn't have any yet.
...So I guess I look like an older blues guitarist or something? I can only wonder what will happen when I take my lap steel in for servicing....
