I can't speak for anywhere else, but the Led Zeppelin show in Kitchener (with CopperPenny opening) is documented in the local newspaper, complete with reviews, photos and promo advertisements. There is also some info HERE.

You older guys may not have any idea who I'm talking about. but my last band opened several shows for the Polyphonic Spree and my current band has played alongside Andrew W.K (Party Hard!) several times and shared the stage one night with The Breeders, Lou Barlow (of Dinosaur jr and Sebadoh) and Har Mar Superstar, who also brought Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs up on stage with him.

Oh yeah, I saw someone else mention Local H. We are set to play with them on May 9th! Should be a good time.

Well I stand corrected. Thanks for the link. It could be that because of it not being a major concert, with little press, that it was not a part of the "lore" surrounding Led Zeppelin.

I do know that it was a big part of the Led Zeppelin aura, that they played their shows solo as not many before or since really did that.

That is an interesting comment, I have to dig deep into
the wayback machine and think about that.

Of all the old shows I ever saw, most seem to have had 2
or more bands.

The only exceptions I can remember that did a solo
show were YES, Bonnie Raitt, [ where is Freebo nowadays ...?], The Doobie Brothers, one of 3
Mahavishnu Orchestra shows, and the Allman
Brothers with Duane and Berry. The Kinks.

My old band, Dead Hand System, opened for Marylin Manson at the HOB in New Orleans. Mr. Manson is not a nice person, but Pogo (their keyboardist) is ok.

We also did backup vocals on NIN's "The Fragile". The Buddha Boys choir? That's us.

On the off chance that they are still together and get as big as they deserve to be, NIMBUS was a band of guys from the local area about my age, formed when we were all in high school. I was in homeroom with their bassist, the other guys in the band went to different high schools. Anyways, I used to love going to see them play back then, they were metal (like Sepultura metal)

Couple years later it was THEY (Nimbus) who opened for US (bacchus) at Phantasmagoria in Wheaton, MD. That made me feel awesome, those guys were like my heroes in my highschool metal days.

As for me opening, well this one time we opened a show at which the headlining act was "...with Ronnie Younkins of KIX". Lame.

And the band I'm auditioning for on Sunday has opened for King's X several times, and Fishbone as well =0) shweet.

Opened for that you probably have heard of...Tori Amos, ummmm...uhhhhh...crap. Just her.

Opened for that you SHOULD have heard of...Lone Justice, Brave Combo, New Bohemians, Billygoat.

Opened for that other people had heard of...There was a Nigerian singer named Sonny Okosun who was, like HUUUUUUUUGE in Nigeria. He came to Texas to do a benefit. I and two other guys answered the ad a Nigerian guy in Dallas had out looking for musicians. We ended up opening for our singers musical hero. Apparently for a Nigerian, getting to open for Sonny Okosun in 1988 was kind of like a country fan getting to open for Garth Brooks in 1998. The crowd was unreal, literally. Our singer was beyond thrilled. He and his wife and sister-in-law did our vocals. The three of us who had never heard of Sonny just enjoyed the gig. As well as being a bass player, im also a drummer. My drum teacher opened for the Who on their first tour. The Who had a brake and it turned out that Moon had demolished his Hi-Hats. My teacher (Alan) lends Moon his Hi-Hats to finish the gig. Moon proceeds to demolish Alans Hi-Hats and to add insult to injury, kicks them off the stage lol

I have opened for lots of blues acts, off the top of my head: Roomful of Blues, Ronnie Earl, Tab Benoit, Jimmy Rogers, James Cotton, Kenny Neal, Long John Hunter, W.C. Clark and Nick Moss & the Flip Tops.

When Led Zeppelin was touring to support Led Zeppelin II, the James Gang (w/Joe Walsh) were the opening band. We snuck into a show in Buffalo, NY and got to meet the band...and we were offered backstage passes to the show 2 days later in Syracuse, NY. We went, the road manager got us and took us back. We talked to Jimmy Page for about 2 hours and Page autographed my friend's Firebird. He was a gracious, regular kind of guy

So Benjamin...I meant to ask ya how you liked the HOB in NOLA?? Ive played there a few times and loved it! And Manson? well...what can we say about ole Marilyn, met him once briefly in New Orleans, he was hanging with Trent Reznor for the eve...seemed pretty cool to me, but Ive heard lots of different stories. I was just suprised at how intelligent he actually can be.

Very cool, lonote! My current band does a bunch of Jimmy Rogers tunes (well what blues R&B band doesn't) and some WC Clark material.

James Gang had a bunch of great players go through in addition to Joe Walsh - one of my faves was guitarist Domenic Troiano, now a producer/composer for CBC TV, whose original band in Toronto (Mandala) did some tunes that I still remember playing back in 1974 - Mellow Carmello Palumbo and Love-itis (later covere by J Geils).

The singer from Sevendust complimented my septum piercing while we were in the beer line at a bar show here back in 1999.

That's about as close to fame as I've come. Never played with anybody even remotely close to famous.
