This is about being Pro....This is about Making MONEY.....to form a group thats one of the best bands in the twin cities and region.
to play the best of the best songs older classics to the latest radio hits from 2010. playing to please the patrons is a good business model
looking to put together a 5 piece,
I play guitar electric and acoustic and lead, can sing back up and some lead.
looking for drums,bass keys,guitar,vocals.
jobbers are welcome
reading off charts at gigs is fine with me,
all members will particapate in chosing/bringing in the best songs
this is about using your pro talent and Making Money doing what you love.

And now for a little humor,,,,,,,,,,

drunks and druggies are encouraged to apply as your always the most talented.
singers that don't own a microphone or PA or know the words to many songs and don't have transpo or even know how to use a PA,much less help carry it in and set it up are wanted.
Hint::::they post free lyrics and chord charts all over the web,all you gotta do is work on the fills
if u played when u were 17 and haven't played much since and now ur 35 and wanna rock ur not A PRO
if tranposing keys is a problem ur not a PRO
if u break a string at a gig and don't have a back up set ur not a PRO
if ur hired to play 4/ 45 minute sets and u take 30 minute breaks between sets ur not a PRO
if ur so drunk that u pass out before the 4 th set starts ur not a PRO
if u have a wife at home and ur trying to lay the waitress ur not Pro but u are a Scumbag
u get the idea and heres ur sign

What an interesting sense of what makes someone a "pro" from a source who obviously has never been a "pro". Quick example: TONS of contracts at MN and Midwest clubs that are issued for 4-45 minute sets from 9-1:30. Forget for a second that the math works out to 30 minute breaks, most contracts lay out break times and 30 minute breaks are by far the most common. Contracts, showtimes and setups changed when MN bars started staying open till 2 and clubs wanted to cater to both earlier and later night crowds. Guess those thousands of bands who have played under those contracts are not "pros".

My band plays 2 sets from 9:00pm to 1:30am with a 20-30 min. break sandwiched in the middle...

Does this make us uber pros?

+1

My band typically does 10pm to 2am with one long break in the middle. Normally 25 to 30 minutes.

4 sets with 3 breaks always seemed sucky to me.

Im not talented (don't drink much, dont do drugs unless they are free and I think I'm semi-pro according to this :]

I have a spare set ot TI Flats but I'd have to change all strings (i'm using Labellas 760FL) and do the quick setup (15-20minutes)

I never got hired to play 4/45 sets.
Once I was hired to play two sets. Between them we ate dinner and nobody measured time.

So mostly I did one 60-100min set and go collect money - is it more pro or less pro?

So I'd say I are a semi-pro. Half-pro. Almost-pro etc, etc, ibm.

But now I'm kinda retired. So I arent pro :/

30 minute breaks have been the norm for the last 37 years that I know of, at least in Australia.

I'll bet he has one of those little digital timers mounted on his pedalboard and all set to go for when the breaks do happen...

In my opinion, if you're a pro, you don't have to look to craigslist for band members.

I dunno, I get paid to play and I found my current band through Craigslist. But then again I"m a "weekend warrior" pro, playing bass doesn't pay the bills. Maybe CL is ok for semi-pros?

I'm in the same boat. To me, a "pro" doesn't have a day job. He/she makes his/her living playing music. The word "pro" gets tossed around a little liberally on craigslist for my tastes.

Actually there is one Western Wi. club that does just that (without the amateurs comment)........

I smile when I read ads from "pros" on the Phoenix CL.

If you are a pro, what are you doing in Phoenix?

I'm in the Twin Cities too. We'll have to go see this "PRO" band when they get going. HA! Do you think GB Leighton is getting a new band?

The current Band I'm in I joined from a CL add. And everybody is a pro in the band... they are all great, responsible, motivated, and very talented musicians. We just had a gig that we sold out the Fine Line in Minneapolis with a CL band.

Of course Pino Palladino didn't get the gig with The WHO by answering a craigs list add, but for 99.5% of us, if you try hard enough and are in the right town CL can be a great resource.
So CL can be great, but I have also see some pretty dicey bands add on CL too.
