Musicians Killed after Refusing to Play Longer

After members of the band La Excelencia in Guadalajara, Mexico refused to play more songs after closing time, irate members of the audience killed two members of the band and detonated a grenade inside the bar, Vida Divina, according to Mexican newspaper El Occidental.

A 26-year-old woman attending the concert was also shot and injured.

According to El Occidental, four drunk men aggressively demanded the band play more after their set ended - and they did - for a while. After they stopped around 4 a.m. local time Monday morning, one of the men threw a grenade at the stage, and people ran out of the bar. As they did, two of the band members were shot.

The victims were identified as Jonathan Jimenez, 22, the leader of the band, and Gustavo Alejandro, 35. Others were also injured in the explosion.

The shooters fled, and investigators said there is little information to go on because no one saw the vehicle that they used to leave.

Gun violence has risen in Mexico in recent years. According to the Associated Press, drug cartel turf battles around the country have left more than 30,000 people dead since December 2006.

I have been saying this often in recent months: The more I look at the world, and the 2012 prophecy, the more I begin to realize that the Mayan calendar might be forecasting the collapse of the Mexican state, due to the instability brought about by the narcotraficantes.

trip to Guadalajara, Mexico,...... CANCELLED!!!!

seriously,.. Mexico is at war with itself. i've seen some scarey stuff unfold right infront of me. i've been picked-up off the sidewalk, thrown in the backseat of a squad car, and robbed in an alley by the POLICE! so,... it's not just the drug cartels.
btw, you never want to see what happens when a suspected drug dealer is surrounded by the Military.... all i can say is, DON'T WATCH!!!
overall though, the Mexican people are friendly and a pleasure to be around. infact, my sons are half Meh-hee-con-os.

The article says gun crime has been rising, so am I to assume that this is just standard fare grenade crime in Mexico?

I would have played a Freebird/Stairway to Heaven/Mustang Sally/Smoke on the Water medley and that would have guaranteed at least another 90 mins...

BTW, I ALWAYS pack a few extra grenades in my gig bag...for those "tough" crowds...

Guadalajara is rather close to the drug lord central area. But that band surely knew that. I don't know what they were thinking not performing in heavy battle armor.
