This Came To Me In A Dream...

I dreamt i was playing a house bass.

Ya, the whole house was the bass. i was playing this pole with a single DB string fixed into a slot in a hardwood floor. I made the notes by pulling pack on the pole, thereby varying tension of the string (ala washtub style).

My intonation was perfect.

The sound was glorious!

Yet I know in reality this couldnt possibly work. Or could it?

Pardon the crude sketch.

Yes it could, but the load-in would be a bit fraught.

I read that the late Fritz Richmond, the jug and washtub bass player with the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, played a quonset hut during his stint in the army; "It had a deep, very deep, sound".

Wow, what a great dream! I think your average domestic floor would be way too stiff to get much sound out of but a steel Quonset hut roof would be interesting!

I've had dreams like this. Sometimes I'm playing another instruments like a violin or a trumpet, but somehow it's really a bass. The most disturbing dreams were the ones where my bass was literally falling apart as I was playing it, like a piece of rotted wood. Thankfully, those dreams stopped once I sold my Kay
