It's funny I had the opposite experience - so I was at jazz Summerschool and had taken some strings off a bass and one of the tutors - who is possibly my favourite UK Jazz bassist - asked if he could have them as his were getting really old and he couldn't afford to replace them!

He later told me he liked them so much he used them on an album that I had bought!!

I would think they would be in great shape anywhere above second position.

Golden Spirals aren't easy to come by, so it's probably worth bidding just to get that D and G (and I thought I had heard that Charlie doesn't exactly use the strings for a long period of time, either, so they may be in great shape).

I have an unopened (new old stock) Golden Spiral D and G sitting in my drawer right now, but I'm too enamoured of the Gamut varnished guts to take them off and try the Kaplans...

i'm bidding on them they appear to be in good condition, and from what I heard from someone who knows who is selling them they were only used for a european tour of 10 or so gigs, wouldn't mind getting the goldens I miss them

Speaking of Charlie Haden, did you know that

Jack Black is married to

Charlie Haden's

daughter, Petra?

That makes Charlie Haden Jack Black's father-in-law!
