The Macarthur foundation gave zenon a grant and colbert is not happy about it. He starts talking about zenon and ornette at about 0:20.

Long tradition (one week on TV is like 10 years in real life), he did this last year with John Zorn. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

That was classic too. If memory serves he puts on some really out John Zorn tune, gets a top hat and cane and says "a real toe tapper."

Why bother to write new material, given the attention span of most folks....

more of a memory thing than attention span, no? Why write new material if no one remembers the same bit two years ago? -- well, I didn't see the zorn bit a while back, and I happened to catch the Zenon bit . . . worked on me.

BTW anybody catch Wynton the other night? Some interesting stuff (never know quite how to take Mr. Marsalis) . . . and periodically funny moments. Nice harmonies by colbert at the end.

i saw the wynton thing. colbert nailed those harmonies at the end. some of it was really funny, some of it was pretty awkward for sure.

the zorn clip is one of my personal favorites. that is where "hip-hopketball a jazzebration" came from, and the look on wynton's face when he played it for him was priceless.

adam.
