DB related injury.

I was practicing scales last night and I heard some loose debris inside my bass rattling, I tried to ignore it, I figured it was that piece of sandpaper I got stuck inside the thing or just something my friends child stuck in there.

After 45 minutes I could stand it any more. I proceeded to hold the bass over my head and shake it around so the debris would fall out the f holes. I tried this for about 2 minutes which then was followed by me nailing the large glass ceiling light breaking it into pieces. The pieces fell with fury from the ceiling. One of the larger pieces of glass fell on my knee and put a 3" incision about 1/2" deep on my leg and gave me a pretty good bruise on my knee.

So today I hobbling around with a superglued incision.
I guess the moral of the story would be, Double Basses and short ceiling don't match.

Or I'm just a dumb***

I still don't know. After the incident I had to take care of the bleeding and the glass, by the time that was done I wasn't in the mood to practice anymore and I went to sleep.
Next day got up and went to work for about 14 hours.
Tomorrow I'll break out the flash light and a hanger with some tape and try to figure it out, I don't think I'll attempt the over the head thing in my house again.

If anyone know of better ways of removing debris please let me know.

Ouch !

Yikes! done that shaking over the head routine to get picks out of the guitar about a hundred times but never with a UB.

There's a few ideas here that might help, along with a whole bunch of entertaining "stuff in bass" stories...

Tip: cleaning inside the bass

I've had some crap in my bass for ages now. Done the shake it around over your head thing a number of times. No luck.

I think it's a bunk technique. You prolly know this now.

Maybe I'm too laid back but I'm done trying to remove whatever it is. Iv’e decided I'll wait the little piece out.

I had the same problem with many wood chips in my bass.
I did the shaking routine, and at one point, there were two of us shaking the bass. Still there.

But when I took it over to Lemur he used high power blower to get the stuff out. If you can find a luthier with something like this, or have a blower, even some old vacuums have this option, try it. It works great.
