I think we DBers officially need a term for them...

We've all seen it on talkbass. A relevant (or not!) thread on the DB bass side is rolling along and, because recent threads pop up in that list at the opening page, some electric player, having read only the title and one or two posts, jumps right in and starts rambling on about frets or two hand tapping, or something.

Like tonight, in a thread about double bass slap technique some guy posts that I should adjust my relief. Last I checked, my upright didn't have a truss rod.

Anyways, shouldn't there be an acronym or term for these guys?!
I know I'm not alone here!

Matt

What is your favorite pick?

Gee, Matt, some of us play it both ways! (Bass, man, I'm talking bass - wipe that smirk off your face!)

Besides, it's kinda fun to pick on the guys that wander over from the dark side. I think the BGers are a little bit intimidated by a whole community of "fretless" players.

I see your point, though. I've been told to try a thinner pick and I've been scolded for playing without a strap.

Come to think of it - my WAV has a truss rod. But that isn't really an upright ...

Bi-Stringual

I don't know about designating a term. There are some of us who dabble on both sides. Although, I have definitely gotten much greater "educational" value from the DB side- which, is the main reason I am a supporting member.

That being said, I don't think I could ever be accused of mixing up my Motown from Motorhead, rosin for resin (or vice versa), or Coltrane from "the best soy latte you've ever had" TRAIN.

One could "try" to make the case that there is a natural evolution from Milt "The Judge" Hinton to Robert Trujillo. But, I don't really buy it.

This could come in handy for those who inadvertently "play over the bar line"-

This could be good to post for the ones who "should've taken that left turn at Albuquerque"-

Thumbs up

I AM getting old, BUT........there are two guys from that "side", that I know kind of personally. Unlike most, they are now happily playing our instrument and are both posting almost daily, giving out good info to others who might have that rare staying power here.
They have both PMed me during some rough times for me here on the board, and I dig them both very much.
Go ahead and slap some ass if you have to. Most will just go away...the good ones stay right here with us.

DURRL, may I have a KITTY?

As soon as Pee Dub posts, most visitors from the upstairs forums usually assume an expression similar to the one sported by this little guy.

Yeah, because that first post was really complicated.

What I wrote wasn't what he was talking about. It was a joke which apparently flew right over what it should've.

Paul and Brad, two proud peas in a pod who fail to see humor from the west side. At least FedEx some ice to cool the "burn".
