I'm compiling a list - DISCUSS! |

Gut or steel
Gut or synthetic
Spiro's or "other"
"D" Bass or "Eb" Bass
Pirates or Ninjas (who would win)
As for discussion, on most points reasonable people can agree to disagree. "It's the ear, not the gear". I once got baited into an argument between "movable and fixed do solfege". Not with another bassist though! It is interesting to see the things that people are passionate about.

Endpin debates - bent v. straight, extending v. fixed, graphite v. steel v. wood...
Simandl v. Rabbath
Straight quarters when walking v. "spits" and "diggedy-booms"
Down-firing speakers v. traditional design....
Ginger v. Mary Ann
The list is endless

I assert that Mary Ann's still waters run quite deep indeed.
Put that in your fret board and smoke it.

as for the topic at hand, when to use the ring finger. even my rabbath-based teacher cringes when i use my third finger in fourth position.

Standing - only weese sit
Spiros
Spiros are bowable - if you think they aren't, practice more
All ebay basses are roadside bombs just waiting for the right personnel carrier: You.
You must play with a bow, and do the majority of practice with a bow; if you don't, you're a mouth breathing knuckle dragger who will never, ever, under any circumstances, play a single note even remotely in tune.
and
Mary Ann*

Nothing wrong with taking four, but definitely nothing wrong with sleeping in an extra day!

No one mentioned...
Violin corners
Gamba
I have one of each now.
So, I'd take both Mary Ann and Ginger and we three would "all get along".
PS: Geared or SS? Both of course. You can never have too many bikes or basses, or women.
