You mean the David Lee Roth of bluegrass, is David Lee Roth?

I hope the players get a good check for this gig, because all their friends will see them doing it:

The emoticon band above will make sense after you see the video.

Yeah, pathetically funny. In the words of Ian Anderson (of Jethro Tull fame), "too old to rock and roll, too young to die."

If you want good bluegrass covers of rock tunes try Hayseed Dixie. Their stuff is on itunes and emusic and actually sounds like bluegrass.

Gawd that's awful! Four minutes and nineteen seconds!! I lasted 1:04.

I saw Rob Ickes on the Dobro there: I'll have to rip him about this next time I see him. Of course he's young, so maybe he was a Van Halen fan when he was a kid.

Zounds. Color me dumbfounded.

Great band, though. Kind of a waste, but nice to see them on national TV. Some playin' mofos up there.

Well, to be fair I hunted down the CD and it's not nearly as bad as the video clip. Here are the tracklistings and musicians:

1. JUMP - David Lee Roth with the John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band
2. JAMIE’S CRYIN’ - David Lee Roth with the John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band
3. I’LL WAIT - Blue Highway
4. RUNNIN’ WITH THE DEVIL - The John Cowan Band (courtesy of Pinecastle Records)
5. DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY - Mountain Heart
6. AIN’T TALKIN’ ‘BOUT LOVE - Iron Horse
7. HOT FOR TEACHER - David Grisman
8. FEEL YOUR LOVE TONIGHT - Tony Trischka, Dudley Connell, Marshall Wilborn, Dave McLaughlin
9. PANAMA - Cornbread Red
10. UNCHAINED - Iron Horse
11. ICE CREAM MAN - Larry Cordle
12. AND THE CRADLE WILL ROCK... - The John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band
13. COULD THIS BE MAGIC? - The Nashville Bluegrass Band (courtesy of Sugar Hill Records)
14. ERUPTION - Dennis Caplinger
15. JAMIE’S CRYIN’[RADIO EDIT] - David Lee Roth with the John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band

Diamond Dave only sings on three cuts (really only two since one is an edit). The samples I listened to were much better, including the CD version of Jump. They should have lip sync-ed it. Not exactly to my taste in bluegrass, but folks gotta eat. From what I hear, bluegrass pays about as well as jazz.

This is so out of left field. Kind of like a Margaret Thatcher sex vid.

There was this group in Nashville called "Run C&W" that did that sort of thing. (led by Russell Smith of the Amazing Rhythm Aces) They did bluegrass covers of "Hold On I'm Comin'" and "Superstition" etc.

David Lee Roth is a wanker, but he's funny.

Wow I couldn't do 20 seconds. Its a stretch but it may have been better if he didn't sing in like the original. Come to think of it I hated the original.

If that had been an instrumental, it would have been listenable. Rob Ickes payin' the rent... gotta love that.

Makes me wish the original members of VH would do another tour.

The bluegrass musicians playing w/ Dave were awesome though.
