$650 in birthday cash. What to do?

Sign in to disble this ad
I got a decent sum of cash this year from family and friends for my birthday and am looking for some ideas of what to do with it.

I'm not looking to get any bass or music related gear. I'm pretty content with what I have now.

I'm leaning a few different directions right now. A new T.V., mine's a 26" Sanyo. The picture quality is great and it's a little less than 1.5 years old, but I wouldn't mind something bigger, perhaps 40" or 32". Any recommendations on good T.V.'s would be appreciated.

I'm also contemplating a new bedroom set. Mine's up there in years and I could use a new dresser at the least. Again, recommendations would be appreciated because I wouldn't really know quality from crap when it comes to furniture.

I've also been wanting to get back into aquariums again. I really love them and can sit there for hours watching them swim around. For some reason, it relaxes me. If I go that route, I'm leaning towards 60 gallon or larger. I'd also put two albino Oscars in there.

My minds not set in stone on any of the aforementioned items, so I'm open for other suggestions. I just want to have some money left over to sock away.

Save it. You'll need it for gas this summer.

Word!

If you're going to get a TV, this week is a good time to pull the trigger. Pre-Super Bowl sales at big boxes.

Send it to me; then fill a sock with folded paper, put it under your mattress, and convince yourself you're stashing it for a rainy day.

Seriously, I say invest. You aren't going to get very far with 650 on the open market, but you could open high-interest savings account.

High-interest savings account... you mean, like, 2.5%?

Sounds good in principle but most savings accounts these days aren't even keeping up with inflation.

Skip the blow. Just hookers. Or send it to me. I stopped getting birthday cash about 25 years ago.

If I got 650 cash for my birthday I would also be bent on hookers & blow, and Im sure my girlfriend would support my decision.

You do not need a new TV.

I would try investing it. Scratch-off lottery tickets should do the trick
