Congrats though, I'm happy for anyone that can commit to something like that and stick with it.

At first, I would only drink it with meals, then I cut it to only a soda with dinner, to 1 or 2 a week, to none. I've learned to love drinking water (nothing else quenches my thirst the same) and I'm healthier too. Most people don't realize that just dropping soda/tea/coffee can lose them a good 20 pounds, if not more. |

Why did you decide to give up soda though? | To get away from the damaging affects soda was having on me.

I do have it from time to time, I see no reason to cut myself off or anything like that, but I don't even like it very much so I won't drink it regularly at all. Usually only at a restaurant or something.
My main liquid intakes consist of orange juice and gatorade. Still sugary as hell though, eh? haha |

This past July was three years for me. I went from 3-4 liters per day to nothing. I can't even handle the smell of soda pop now.

I'm really curious because I have weened myself off regular Coke last year and am on the Diet soda thing almost exclusively. Lately I'm trying to buy 100% apple or orange juice instead of the diet soda. My goal it to have soda be a very rare part of my diet.

In the last month, making no other changes than cutting out the pop, I've lost nearly 10 lbs, and she's lost 7 (not that she needed to lose anything ). And to be honest, I feel a lot better too. I didn't realize how bloated pop made me feel until I quit drinking it.

lets take a moderate average of soda intake: 3 20 ounce bottles a day.
Calories per day: 720
week: 5040
thats 2.5 days worth of extra calories a week just from soda.
now read this: Quote: |
If you are consuming about 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day, going on a 20 percent calorie restriction program 5 days a week would save you about 500 calories a day (2,500 calories a week). Add to this an exercise program to burn 1,000 calories a week (3 workouts at 300 calories per workout). In total, you would lose about 3500 calories a week, which is equivalent to 1 pound per week. To put it simply, all you have to do, to lose 1 pound a week (which is the maximum rate of loss recommended), is eat 20 percent less 5 days a week and do aerobic exercises about 30 minutes 3 times a week.
| so JUST cutting soda is more effective than eating 20% less 5 days a week and exercising 3 times a week for 30 mins.
Some food for thought
the numbers get amazing if you're the type of person that drinks soda constantly.
Diet soda is another good way to ween yourself, but I found it was a lot easier to get hooked on regular soda again as long as your letting yourself have diet (diet runs out, oh I'll just have regular, etc).
