I had one. 1st Gen, circa 4/82. Trip to the Big City from the Wisconsin hinterlands. Water Tower Place, Michigan Ave, Chicago. Your description evokes my now 30 year old vivid memory of the experience perfectly.

The McRib is neither Scottish nor contains ribs. Discuss.

Why are these facts "amazing?" Disturbing, frightening, amazingly terrifying... those I can agree with it. But, no, I am not amazed that McDonalds would inject pork scraps into a mould to make a couple bucks.

How do you go from southern barbecue to bone shaped cartilage injected faux meat patty and call it "inspiration"? I can't even say I've even had one of these..I probably have, but I don't get the overwhelming demand for it.

Part of the reason I don't eat meat.

You used the word yourself... perhaps that was also the articles connotation?

. . . .
I avoid meat for the same reason.

Separately, McDonald's has been on my "don't eat" list for a long time. After eating natural food (for lack of a better term), quite a few items at McDonald's taste spoiled or rancid to me (no, I am not exaggerating to make a point).

Even back when I ate meat McDonalds was a place I would avoid, as well.

Fast Food Nation was a highly influential book for me in many ways.

My grandmother and parents used to make us eat Scrapple. Once I found out what it was, I never ate it again.

Scrapple is typically made of hog offal (variety meats or organ meats), such as the head, heart, liver, and other trimmings, which are boiled with any bones attached (often the entire head), to make a broth. Once cooked, bones and fat are discarded, the meat is reserved, and (dry) cornmeal is boiled in the broth to make a mush. The meat, finely minced, is returned to the pot and seasonings, typically sage, thyme, savory, black pepper, and others are added. The mush is formed into loaves and sliced and fried.

That's essentially no different than making sausage, but without casings being involved. Scrapple is basically a variety of head cheese.

This dang thread actually made me want a McRib, despite the fact that they suck. I'm eating it now -

Oh, and it's everything I hoped it would be and so much more! I just spit out a pickle slice and it stuck to the wall. Why do they put pickles on these things???

I will eat a lot of things, including a McRib. My wife, however, really will eat just about anything. Over the weekend she had chapulines (crickets) at a local oaxacan restaurant.

Like I said, I'll eat a lot of things but I draw the line at knowingly chomping down on bugs.

Well, that was uh.... anticlimactic. I don't regret it, though. Sometimes you need to just eat something that sucks. It puts life in perspective.

Lucky you! Does she have a sister?

I'm not permitted to trash McD's, as my wife works at one, and recently got Employee of the Year at her store. (Got a funny looking trophy and $100)
