Yeah this was the second attempt. The first one also splashed but with every launch they're learning more and more. From what I hear, this is pretty certain to become a reality in as far as becoming a production piece eventually. They're just sort of ironing out the "bugs" at this point.
Crazy stuff isn't it?

LOL, yeah but that's where this gets cool - there WILL be no pilot in the traditional sense. It will either be a computer, or a guy sitting in an air-conditioned bunker over at Nellis AFB. The world is changing... damn I'm getting old

Oh? I did not know that either. A remote controlled rocket ship? Who would of thunk?

It's intended to be a bomber with the ability to strike anywhere on earth within a hour. That's cool and all, but we can already have that capability, what with ballistic missile subs and such.

Mach 20? I knew they were up to something but I didn't know they were going that fast! Who cares that it invariably crashes, I want a seat on the next flight!

An excellent example to what the US government is doing. Very cool, innovative, job creating, etc...

Also a precursor to commercial uses for high speed flight.

Washington to Tokyo in 2 hours...cool!!!

I don't think so. A plane that fast will burn fuel like crazy. A commercial sized plane would be incredibly expensive. Politics would hurt it too because Britain and France will remember all of the complaints about the Concord and it's sonic booms.

A weapon. It will stay a weapon. The fact that we know about it is interesting.
