Stupid move on her part.......and if she wanted her boyfriend to see them...why not just let him see her naked in person. I never had a problem with that at that age then again I never had my space, internet, cellphones either. http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegrap...rom=public_rss |

this is absolutely ridiculous. is it REALLY child pornography if its YOU? why would she have to register as a sex offender for being a confused adolescent and future exhibitionist? sure.. its a bad move on her part, and something SHOULD be done about it.. but at most she should have her account terminated, be charged with public indecency at the worst, and her parents need to lock her in her room for a couple years.
i just read about something like this happening somewhere else.. a kid's phone was taken during class, the teacher went through his phone (which is just wrong) and found a picture another student had sent him. he faces jail time and might have to register as a sex offender.
they are BOTH teenagers. thats what teenagers do. he wasnt distributing stuff.. he wasnt selling anything.. hes not an adult.. the only wrong thing about it is that the parents need to crack down and the teachers need to keep their noses out of peoples' phones.
this world is going to ****. i lose more faith in society every day.

This is ridiculous, child porn laws are in place to prevent exploitation of kids. If she took the pictures of herself and chose to do it entirely of her own volition, the spirit of the law really doesn't apply. That's not to say that we should have kids just sending naked pics of themselves all over, but labeling them sex offenders isn't the answer. |

here's the coverage in our local news: http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/200...ested_for.html

other than that, i find it wrong that she has to be registered as a sex offender. Though she is dumb to actually do something like that in the first place.

Way too often, the police are called in to situations that used to handled by teachers or principals, along with parents. As someone who worked in the public schools, and who is the son of teacher, I can tell you all that the loss of disciplinary power is the schools is a direct result of parents suing over attempts at discipline. The schools have no choice but to call in the police.
The Sex Offender Registration is a great idea for pedophiles, and rapists, but this society, which is terminally hung up on sex, has made the list of registerable sex crimes downright silly. I read once about a seven year old boy that put his hands in a girls pants who was arrested, and who had to go to school with teenage sex offenders in Metro Detroit! When I was a kid, he would have been spanked and made to stand in corner for not keeping his hands to himself. Unless there were some deep-seated psychological issue, that punishment would have ended the behavior 95-99% of the time.
Similarly the girl in the case first mentioned needs to lose her cell phone, and needs a long, long grounding. I also don't think kids that recieve photos of children within their age group need to be criminalized either.

| | | | This is a case of misusing a criminal statute in a way that it was never intended to be used! I hope any charges filed by the prosecution in this situation get tossed out by the first judge to get such an act of idiocy and over reaching, before their bench. Absolutely no common sense is being applied here at all in this case.
I'm all for laws against child pornography, and for laws used against those who prey on kids. I'm sorry, but I don't see an adult predator in this situation, which these types of laws were intended to address. I do see a foolish kid doing an immature and dumb thing involving herself. I have to agree with the esteemed Dr. Cheese on this one. |

At my school, you aren't allowed to have phones out, and if you are caught with it out, they take it on the spot. Then they go through it. I always lock my phone, so if they would happen to take it, all I have to do is turn it off and then they can only get in by knowing the password.
lol, the other day I pulled my phone out in the morning so I could turn it off, since I never use it anyway during the day, and a teacher saw me and said "Give me your phone." I put it in my pocket and replied, "If you want it, you gotta get it out of my pocket." Then I got a dirty look and she walked off all pissed. |

Do yourself a favor, and leave that cell phone at home since it is against the rules. If you think you are dealing with too many rules now, just wait until yoou get out in the working world full time.

I need to keep it on me because both of my parents work, and our school recently has had lots of bomb threats (fake of course). And we are going total renovation, so sometimes our school has a problem and has to close, and I need a way to contact my parents.
The reason the teacher was trying to take it was because I literatly took it our of my pocket to turn it off. It made me mad that she still wanted it, so I figured why not, and said what I said. |

some teachers care more than others, so you just have to be careful about pulling it out.
and the easiest way to stop teachers from going through it is pull the battery before you fork it over...
people are sue-happy idiots who take no responsibility anymore

It's sounds like youo are rationalizing why you break the rules, but hey, you are a teenager, breaking rules is part of being your age. Just be smart, and avoid getting yourself in a hole you can't get dig way out of.

As a cop I'm outraged by the misuse of the law in this case. The next step is charging teenagers with child molesting when they masturbate.
This is an education issue, not a criminal issue. If anything good comes from the publicity, it is that it will be a wakeup call to the boyfriends who are receiving these pics, because they are definitely at risk here.
