14th SEC School?

It looks like Texas A&M may join the SEC. If it does, a 14th school needs to be added to keep the divisions even. I understand that current SEC presidents don't want another school from the states that already have SEC teams. If that is the case, who would be a good choice?

Florida State is rumored as well.

Remember, word is that the SEC presidents don't want schools from states that already have SEC schools admitted. IMO, that pretty much leaves Texas, Oklahoma, and North Carolina, or maybe Virginia. I think a school from NC or Texas makes the most sense. Of course, Oklahoma would be great, but I don't think they will leave the Big Twelve (or whatever it is now.)

Texas basically made the Big-12 bend over and grab it's ankles early in the Spring in order to keep them in the Big-12. Don't see any reason why they'd leave. If A&M leaves for the SEC, I think Tech would make the most sense. There is a build in regional rivalry already established and I don't think Baylor fits the SEC model.

if a&m goes, i'd love to see tech go SEC too because the stability of the Big 12 will then be pretty shaky, but i don't think it's very likely...i imagine Tuberville might have mixed feelings about the idea

Out of those choices, Tech makes the most sense. Wake and Baylor would be cellar dwellers in the SEC in football pretty much every year. And yeah, Texas just got everything they wanted on a silver platter from the Big 12.

I wouldn't let a coach have the last word over a long term change. The AD should tell Tuberville to win and remember how much money he makes.

Wow! It looks like I was way off and Bassrique was on to something! My local station (St. Louis) says that the possible new teams for the SEC are: Texas A&M; Missouri; Clemson, and Florida State! That sounds like a pretty awesome combination!

Clemson makes sense to me and I could see why Florida St would want into the SEC. Mizzou? Not so much...

Clemson will never wanna switch.

FSU is a very very slight possibility.

Why not? Clemson is a football crazy school with a good football tradition and they'd get to step into the premier football conference. Seems like a win to me for them. Plus there is the built in rivalry with South Carolina already.

Of all the possible teams/states that could come into the SEC, I absolutely DO NOT WANT a Texas school coming in, because Texas is the Southwest, not the Southeast. Clemson and FSU I could stomach. It'd be interesting to see if FSU lives up to all the hype if they'd play a harder in-conference schedule, and it's not like there's not a built in rivalry already if FSU enters.

I like Texas being in the SEC. That will give it all but two states from the Confederacy, which gives it a nice regional consistency.

Texas is a special because it is so big, but Texas culture is more Southern than anything else.

Didn't they say they didn't want teams from states that already are in the SEC? I feel like I heard that somewhere. Wouldn't that eliminate FSU and Clemson?

There are conflicting reports. We will see what is what in a few days.

oh, i don't think the BOR at tech has much trouble not giving the last word to coaches, haha (mike leach-related joke, but maybe with tuberville things are different)...the comment about tuberville and mixed feelings wasn't related to my feeling that tech going to the SEC is very likely--i have a feeling the BOR will try to hang onto the big 12, even if A&M leaves and other schools start to bolt in reaction to the potential situation...the move could shake things up dramatically, or hardly at all...will be interesting to see what, if anything, happens with it
