WASHINGTON - A teenager in the state of Georgia was decapitated when struck by an amusement park ride, U.S. media reported Sunday.
The Atlanta Constitution newspaper reported that the 17-year-old was struck and killed Saturday by the popular "Batman the Ride" at a Six Flags amusement park in the southern U.S. town of Over, Ga.
Authorities said the boy ignored numerous posted warning signs and scaled two fences to gain access to a restricted area where the roller coaster was running.
Park officials said the ride was going at its maximum speed, 80 kilometres per hour, when it hit the teen, who was at the amusement park with family members on a church group day trip.
Six Flags closed the ride late Saturday, but told the media that operations would likely resume Monday.

"No, sir. We just had a lot of fence material left over after construction. We had to put it somewhere. Same thing with the signs."

Sometimes, fences and warning signs are actually there for a reason. I feel sorry for that boy's family, but it was his own stupidity and ignorance that killed him.

I like the way the news makes it sound like the ride is dangerous and to blame. You can't make everything in life idiot proof!! |

It sucks that he lost his head, but he should not have been there.

You build an 80mph roller coaster, you can't step out in front of it Just like dangerous manufacturing equipment, there are probably lockout/tag out procedures that make working around it perfectly safe. If you jump over 2 fences to climb on it, you might get hurt!! It's sort of like my AWD nitro RC car. It's fast as hell. When I crash it into my ankle, I'm the only one to blame!! |
