1981: Newspapers on computers?

Sign in to disble this ad
Below is a TV news report on a strange new technology phenomenon. It only took two hours to download a paper back then [at $5.00/hr].

And all these years later, the print news media is finally feeling heavy pressure. In a few years [months?] there will be many less newspapers about.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

A month or so ago the Hearst family announced the closing of the Seattle Post Intelligencer. The PI is doing its best to at least remain an online newspaper.

Pretty amazing its been 28 years since '81... jeez, I'm getting old!

That's absolutely fascinating. The rate of progress in IT has been nothing short of staggering in the time since then. Thanks for posting it.

TVs as monitors. Wow.

I remember the first computer we had. One had to load the OS in it every time manually by slipping in a huge floppy disk.

I also remember one of my Dad's customers that was starting a new company [it was one of the first commercial ISPs] and was looking for investors. Dad didn't get the whole thing and passed.
