Great speech...moved me a little.
Why do we mostly oppose this again?

This is not a real problem, and there is no need for a 'solution'. |

| | <-- That guy looks like me, but old. | | Join Date: Aug 2002 Location: Arlington TX | | | I'll put it this way. More and more, Idiocracy is looking like a documentary.
I don't know if it's just that people in general have become so stupid that it's a wonder they don't starve to death in their house because they can't figure out how to operate doorknobs, or if I maybe only see most people during a phase of their life when they've stopped using their brain at all.
I work at a childrens hospital. I understand that some of the parents I meet there might be so overwhelmed by the circumstance of their child's illness that they just can't think properly. But I think they are a small minority of the population we see. I also get to see the people who demonstrate very clearly that their brain won't work when they go home, either.
Those people? The ones who make us shake our heads and weep for the future of humanity? I see more and more of them every year. It can't be an accident. I think there has to be some kind of plot to make people dumber as time goes by. But whoever started it forgot to install an 'off' switch.
That's why cable station that are alleged to be news providers are in stead delivering huge amounts of tranquilizing pablum to calm the masses. Those people who are currently drooling on themselves while alternately giggling, picking their noses, and wondering about the Kardshians would be terrified to suddenly realize that we are all so desperately screwed. Currently every man, woman, child, and infant in this nation owes more that an average years entire pre-tax pay as just interest on our national debt. There are four to five applicants for every job opening. And things aren't going to get better. If you told all of those people that all at once. I'm pretty sure we'd have either an instant revolution or a sudden huge rash of suicides. Neither of those things sound positive to me. So I guess we'll just have to go back to our televised pacifier.
I think I might be a little bitter tonight.

And as everyone else has said, it's a null point really. Some people should just keep out of other peoples business!

I mean, the record of hetereosexuals regarding marriage and family has hardly been the best. If the heteros haven't destroyed those institutions with their poor behavior over these past few thousand years, a few gay families ain't gonna do squat.

| | | | Seems an odd discussion to find on a forum about musical instruments, but I'm game to jump in on this one. Apart from my intro this is my first post.
I grew up in a family in which the subject of gays was rarely discussed, and they were considered something to be either made fun of or bashed. I grew up with that attitude instilled in me, and it wasn't until some time into my adulthood that I took it upon myself to expel that idea from my mind. It isn't something that happens instantly. It takes effort, and it takes education. I'm not defending those who still hold the view that gays are "bad", but I understand that it takes work. The trick is to legislate education against the idea that gays are "bad". This is a difficult one, because it's like trying to change someone's religious ideas. The parents who oppose gay marriage will resist having their children being taught that gays are OK, just as the parents who defend creationism will resist them being taught evolution. |

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
... and I think I'm gonna use that quote as my signature...

But just a word of caution here - those who are against gay marriage/adoption are not necessarily bad people. I would say that many if not most are just misinformed and if more folks like the dude in the video had a voice, I'm sure we'd see much wider acceptance.
Just remember that before you go bashing religion or political views as the "culprit".. That's pretty much tantamount to the "pot callin' the kettle black"
