For all you car guys,....make sure to watch in 720p.

As driven by retired Rally Driver Tommi Makinen:

http://www.youtube.com/user/SubaruGl.../0/4hyATjjajPg

AFAIK it's a stock prototype STI and Tommi get's it up to 155 mph on the long straight into the finish.

I prefer the older bug eye STIs (that never made it to American shores) but this is a cool video from one of the craziest motorsports complexes in the world (zee crazy Germans).

I'm mistaken,...it is a prototype but it isn't stock. It's got the JDM 2 litre and a larger than stock turbo. 320 hp (I think stock = 305hp in the states). It also has some aerodynamic pieces fitted to it for better high speed stability.

I bet the time would have been a few seconds quicker had Tommi remembered 6th gear at the beginning and not almost lost it at the end of the run,....that said he probably did a hell of lot better than I could have mustered on that track.

Nearly blew the engine going into Aremberg at about 1:33. Dropped to 2nd from 5th, for a 3rd gear bend.

I noticed that too. Tommi M. definitely gets lost in the gear box. I think he was aiming for 4th gear.

The Nurburgring has to be one of the coolest racetracks I have ever been to. They open it up to the public on special days too.

We have a few really tricked out WRX's in my town. While they are cool, IMHO, they sound like HELL. Running them in on the dirt rally roads is the perfect place for them I much prefer the smooth sounding straight 6 motor in my beemer.

Rally is why I love Soobies. I love WRC, SCCA Rally and all it's underlings. There is a rally race within driving distance of here that I have yet to make (not exactly the best spectator motorsport). I used to watch the recaps on the Speed Channel all the time (before it became the Nascar channel). Nothing like muddy AWD cars hauling *** up old logging roads.

Then you might have seen this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozntieZs8Bg

If not, enjoy! It's a highlight mix of old FIA Group B rally footage. Was featured in an Autoblog.com post a year or so ago.

Not ashamed to say, I was choked up with joy watching it for the first time. Ohh the glorious sounds!

I got the chills,...awesome, thanks for sharing. Those cars were crazy but a bit before my time. Did I see a Ferrari in there?!!!!

I looked into it and I think I'm going to try to make it to the Olympus Rally on the Washington State coast next year,...if not I'm going to try to get to the Oregon Trail Rally.

You won't catch my smooth straight 6 anywhere near your beemer.

While I love Imprezas, the sub 7min lap of the 599XX is one of the most impressive performances I've seen recently in a front engine car (even if it is a 700hp V12).

Cool video. He probably could have gone a lot faster if didn't mess up those few times. It's way better than anything I could have done though.

That's sweet! I'm a huge fan of the Lancia Stratos and Delta, so when I saw those, I was drooling a bit.

I like the sound of an Impreza because I like the sound of a Harley. Or the opposite. Subarus sound like Harleys.

That video was making me travel-sick. Pretty impressive though.
