So what do you guys think of this season so far? It seems to up the anti every year, but I'm not sure they've jumped the shark yet.

Unless, of course, they do something to write off Jack, focus on some other part of the US government, whatever. I could see multiple 24's working out as well as Law and Order or CSI franchises have.

They're kind of writing Jack into a one hit wonder with a rep for using torture to receive intel. I think the way the implemented his use of torture in the past seasons was much better executed. They would build up to it with tension in the story and when he was slapping someone around the room you were right there with him wooting at the TV. But now it seems there's a formula. Every hour we have to squeeze another torture scene in with Jack. I don't know. I'm still loving the show, but that's my only gripe. And I'm not just a fan because the guy that created the show used to be my boss. |

That said, it's been a bit overplayed this year. I am currently watching Season 2 at home on DVD, and it is interesting how many of the same types of choices come up. In one case Jack has to get Immunity for Nina Meyers (the women who killed his wife in season one). I am glad we have someone with decent character in the story line as President. I think Dennis Heysbert set new standards for actors who play the President of the US in anything. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Palmer_(24_character)
He was certainly a much easier character to empathize with then President Charles Logan (Greg Itzin) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregory_Itzin

suuuuuuure there's an unguarded secret drainage passage to the White House.....

I have mixed feelings, I think the attack on the White House was a bit implausible. The plot twist at the end with Tony was cool. I think the show did a great job of dealing with the Jack Bauer conflicts over torture. Next season "Resurrection " (well it only makes sense after redemption) will be interesting. Sutherland has two more seasons under contract. I suspect we will be seeing more of Kim Bauer next season too. I wonder if they will resolve the FBI agents actions at the end of this season? I do like the way they show has tied characters from previous seasons into the plot like Chloe's husband and Williams. I'm also not sure this seasons President was as believable a character as President Palmer, (the standard for all characters playing the President of the US)

+1. I also have mixed feelings. The series was good, and has lived up to its rep, but it just didn't seem as tense as previous seasons. In previous season my wife and I were sitting there during the commercials just going "wow". This season was just kind of meh for me. I was entertained, but I don't know I didn't find it as relevant and timely as the past episodes. |
