For the 3rd June in a row....

Sign in to disble this ad
For the 3rd june in a row we are on the verge of losing another pet. 2 years ago, it was our choc lab, last year one of my cats, and this year our other dog. I know, all animals get old but this is extremely hard on my lady. And our wallets. The first dog cost us well over $10,000 (long story, she snuck it back from hawaii on a plane, won the dog in divorce settlement, etc..) to find out the animal was terminal. the last month was no good for anyone. My cat had some f'ed up stuff happen to him, definitely used all of his nine lives and about $7,000 when we decided it was enough.

So the other dog is showing symptoms that the first one passed away from but we've decided we are not cutting into this dog. She's almost 11 and to do something that might get us an extra month (of possibly hell, it was real hard with the first dog) just doesn't seem right.

My lady is really having a hard time with this. Since i've been only working part time, i've been on doggy duty () for the last few weeks. this is tough. But i think in the long run it will be better for us to make the right decision as opposed to trying to squeeze very last bit of life of the poor animal. Or out of my wallet. I'm sure a few of you are familiar with this.

I am sorry for all that has happened, BUT your pets could not have been with a better more caring person from what I see in your post. My wife's/mother in law Poodle was just put down Saturday. 14 years old and had extensive medical problems with even bigger bills.

It is very hard for them both but the dog is better off.

Don't even get me started on how our vet doctors, (many, not all) milk people for all they can. Heartless. Play on peoples emotions.

I hope you and your lady get through this and maybe get another pet?

well, we still have 2 cats. 15 and 17. looks like i got at least 2 more June's to deal with... haha

Yea, we have already started looking for Chocolate Lab rescues and such. My lady is determined to have the 2nd coming of our other choc lab that passed away 2 years ago. like i said she's taking this a lot worse than i am. However i've had the 17 year old cat since she was born so that one will probably be toughest on me.

tell that to my girlfriend. i'm right there with you though. That's another real big reason why i'm not going to let any unnecessary surgery happen again. A month or 3 of extra life just might not be worth it in the long run. I know... I could've had a Fodera AND a new car but my lady was real attached to them. I'm putting the foot down this time around.

They're high-maintenance too.

I'd take a dog over a Fodera any day. Good on you and your girl for doing what you could to help your pets.

My old girlfriend was the first I ever knew that a credit card just for her pets. She loved her pets and especially her rat terrier "Cooper". Late in the dogs life, it became diabetic and she was giving it insulin shots until the end. In my case, our family had a calico cat who lived until 22. I fed her strained baby food with distilled water until she went. Still, it is in gods hands . Cats and dogs tell you when its time to go. Of course its not about the money but about the love and care that will be remembered........Take care..................
