Seriously? A guy and his dog at number 22? Ahead of the 9/11 anniversary, elementary school shooting, and an Aurora survivor?
I mean, number 22 is great, but does it really deserve to be that high?

They aren't ranked in any particular order, but you have obviously have to look at them in some sort of sequence. Hovers 3 picks are right in the middle.

And you know what, that guy and his dog may invoke something in someone that the other pictures don't.

4, 7, 8, 11, 12, 17, 21, 35, in no particular order.
Very thought provoking.

I had assumed they were given some order, since they weren't chronological order.

43 & 44 are the most disturbing, because I've actually become used to maniacs shooting up schools - no matter how much it disgusts me, it just doesn't surprise me any more.

No. 10 is the best photo.

A lot of them are really touching, and really upsetting. I like 42, though.

Got about halfway through and didn't want to look any further. So much sadness, despair, and wreckage. Can't wait until we start celebrating good and happiness again.

...and quit glorifying war. War sucks and it's sucking the life and financial stability out of our country.

And the, "news" does nothing but continue the trend. Stopped watching the news like 12 years ago. I feel fine. And so far I've not missed much. I hope the pebble rolling down the hill one day runs out of snow..

I would say that some of the images captured moments of celebration and happiness, though depending on your point of view, those images may also be negative. For example, number 42 is either a joyous wedding or a devastating flood, depending on what perspective you take when pondering the significance of the moment. Likewise, number 40 is either a triumph for civil rights, or the downfall of society, depending on your opinion of gay rights. I think I'm going to have to agree that there were too many unpleasant images on that list. There are many unfortunate things happening in the world today, but I believe there are also positive things that the media prefers to hide from us.

I think it's important for us not to turn a blind eye on things that are "unpleasant" to us anyway. I'd much rather have an understanding of what is happening in the world than delude my consciousness with silly sitcoms, reality shows, and movies with Seth Rogen in them, nonstop.

I don't know,bh, I think the existence of Seth Rogen films is in itself proof that the world is a nasty, unpleasant place.

Somebody would have been choking on their NY hat and not doing much more jumping had I been there for picture #8.

#25 the father begging for his family not to get sent back to myanmar & #44 the children being led away from the sandy hook school (especially that little girl in the blue crying) are the most powerful to me.

I totally agree & that was part of my point... All we ever hear about or see in the media is negative until someone mentions "the troops"... And don't get me wrong, I have family in the military & respect for what they do. I'm just sick of the glorification of war; so sick of it that it really does make me angry.

I have an idea... Let's watch the news one night this week and see how many stories are of shootings, robbings, murders, and attacks & how many are stories of good things and people doing good for one another. I'm guessing it will be about a 7:1 ration.
