This just plain sucks. I was completely unaware that tresspassing was a capital offense.
And the rocket sugeons responsible for "protecting their land" will probably draw their last breath believing they did the right thing.

But that's just plain awful. I can't imagine shooting someone for being on my property, let alone a kid.

In the story it mentions that this fine couple has a sign on their proerty stating that will shoot trespassers. Must be a legal shoot then, eh?

I don't believe I've ever seen any posters here vehemently defending their right to shoot 7 year old trespassers. You talk like there are tons of them.
Why don't you hit us up with some links so we can all see that you're not just throwing up some lame straw man argument?

Do you people out there really think that this happens only in Texas? Most who own weapons legally live by the word of the law concerning their use. You can not paint everyone with the same broad stroke of a paintbrush.

Just because you have the capability to use lethal force doesn't mean you absolutely have to. It looks to me like they were in no danger at any time. Granted, all we are doing on this board is simply speculations & opinions, but while we're speculating and opinionating, did they try to talk to the people?
From reading the article, it looks like the residents were concerned about their levy being damaged, in which case I personally would prefer to walk up to them and talk to them about it. A family of four is usually not out to hurt anybody, just have some fun. Granted, I may still have had my pistol concealed on my person as a JIC, but I do not condone just blasting somebody.
Heck, even in Iraq we can't do that any more, to shoot you must have positive identification of a threat and you must also use a measured amount of force ie: dude shoots at you with an AK from a window, you can't level the building with a Mk.19 or .50 cal.
And Deluge Of Sound, just because we defend our right to bear arms does not mean we are cold-blooded killers. I keep weapons with the firm wish to never have to use them, even in this country.
Peace,
Greg

I live in a blue state and I'm a huge 2nd Amendment supporter. The homeowners are idiots to think like that. Shooting trespassers is 1861 BS, not the way people should think in 2009 if they want to keep their rights.RIP to the boy my thoughts go out to his family. |

These dolts should be locked away forever.
