70s Horror Movies (What would you suggest)

Sign in to disble this ad
I am a huge fan of horror movies. But the new horror movies do not cut it. In the bast four years all three video stores in my small town have gone out of business. I have been really getting into 70s horror movies. So far my favorites are....When a stranger calls, The last house on the left, and Race with the devil.

Lately I have been buying the movies from Ebay, and I would like to hear what you'd suggest.

Anything by Dario Argento if you want some truly funky twisted stuff.

Black Christmas. Similar plot to When a Stranger Calls... sorority house keeps getting weird calls as they are packing up for the Christmas holiday. Good film.

Also recommend- It's Alive. Lady has a mutant baby.

The Exorcist. Period.

Also Poltergeist - though that may have been 80's.

I'd put The Omen in there too, if only for the Rottweilers.

Agree with all these, but watch out for Dario's recent stuff (90's onwards) it's terrible.

Anyway not mentioned I think are:

Halloween, Zombie Flesh Eaters, I Spit On Your Grave, Rabid, Shivers, Who Can Kill A Child

Also check out creepy BBC TV series the Stone Tapes!

p.s. Pieces was pretty shite.

Yup, +100. An excellent remake of a really dull 50's alien movie with the ladies on post only there to serve coffee.

As mentioned - Rabid

It features Marilyn Chambers in the lead role when she tried to be a "real" actress. Even so, it is a late 70s horror flick to check out and directed by David Cronenberg.

Here are a few more to check out

Motel Hell (came out in 1980)
Count Yorga, Vampire
The Return of Count Yorga.
The Abominable Dr. Phibes
Dr. Phibes Rises Again
Andy Warhol's Frankenstein (also called Flesh for Frankenstein)
Andy Warhol's Dracula (also called Blood For Dracula)
Theatre of Blood
The Monster Club
Blacula
Scream Blacula Scream

Cannibal Holocaust (1980) - IMDb

The director was taken to court to prove he didn't actually murder anyone during the film's making. It's still very disturbing.
