Poor guy. It must be terrible having to go through life with a tiny penis.

I found myself humbled by an 8 year old. More courage from her than most of us will see in life. Wow.

That little girl's dad should be beaten and raped. Husband too.
What is this world coming to?

Some parts of the world have always been like that . . . just be thankful she is being able to turn to the courts now.

What a brave girl. I hope she can get away from all that and grow up normally...

According to the Chariah, hubby is going straight to hell.
The Qur'an states that men should only be with nubile women.
They can get married before though, just not share the same bed.
I wonder what Yemenite laws have for him. I'd say it doesn't smell too good for this *******.

It doesnt matter what the book says, it is just like what you could see in catholisism in the not too distant past (ok, it still happens, but not as much).

People putting thier "wants" before the religion is nothing new. As sickening as it is

This story seems exactly like something contrived to create a public reaction. I'm skeptical that it happened at all. I've tried to fact check it, but it seems to dead end at the "Yemen Times" and there's no other credible links to the specifics in the "case" other than that. If anyone can come up with better information than what I've found (or rather, haven't found), then please post it.

It is a fact that forced marriages of children to adults does happen from time to time and it's also true that it happens much more frequently in certain cultures and it's worthy of absolute condemnation, but to automatically accept a story like this without checking to see if it's true or not doesn't help anyone.

Y'know now that you say it, she looks pretty normal in that picture...
Certainly not how you'd expect a girl subjected to such horror would look...
(If a girl 'looks' such a way)

Having known a few abused types, I'd say it's very hard to tell from outward appearances. The girls that I knew were definitely 'off,' but not in any way that would scream that they were abused.

And 8 years old? Damn yo. Age of consent laws and practices have always been a little arbitrary with the cutoff points, but how could anyone think that 8 was an acceptable age for marriage? Even 9 is a little young. You should at least wait for the big 1-0.

Before Westerners get on their high horses, just remember the folks down in Texas (LDS offshoots) who routinely married off girls the moment they reached puberty and impregnated them. They were just broken up last week, and it looks like the charges against them may not stick. The way that little girl in Yemen was treated was not too far off from marrying off girls in their mid teens which was pretty common in America well into the Twentieth Century.

Another thing to remember is that in a patriarchal society where females in poor families have very limited prospects, the adults in the family often see marrying the child to a stable breadwinner as the most practical, and even humane thing they can do with these children.

I'm not asking anyone to agree with the way this child was treated. What I say is that simply condemning the father without any knowledge of the society, economics, and culture is smug, and more importantly will not help anyone in that situation in the future.

BTW, the man who married the girl and immediately sought to consumate the marriage is lower than dirt. Professor or not, I can barely concieve of marrying a kid and waiting until she is old enough to penetrate, but at least if that is the custom, the man should have stuck to it and let the girl grow up unmolested.
